gotta love me some johnny orlando
After Daniel left Portland, he had promised to talk to you everyday, weather it be a simple text or a three minute phone conversation. But life got in the way and both of you had things to do. His band took off and free time became less and less, you graduated and started studying at the state university. The texts and calls that used to be so frequent diminished into only really talking on the holidays, and even then it was only a "happy new year" or "merry Christmas" When Daniel's mom told you he was coming home for the summer, you didn't really know if you were happy, nervous or scared. He was your first love, who you never really stopped loving and for some reason you almost didn't want to see him. You were afraid of who he may have become. Had the fame changed him? Did the new crowd he hung out with change the way he'd see you? He moved on from Portland, from you, but still you were so curious about him.

Something you didn't know was that Daniel was just about as scared as you were. He was afraid of all the things he thought you would be afraid of. He didn't want you to think he had changed (because let's be real he didn't, minor exception on the hair) or that he would treat you any differently because at the end of the day you were still the first person he gave his heart to.  Daniel knew he missed you, but he wouldn't ever let anybody know that. After all, he was the one that had stopped calling.

It was around 11 am when you got a text from Daniel. "Meet me at the airport?" You didn't open the message so he wouldn't know you had seen it. You wanted to see him, but you needed to prepare yourself more, emotionally. Turning around, you looked at the array of photos that hung over your bed. There were pictures from last week that you had just printed off, pictures from your senior year in high school, really from anytime in your life. Daniel was in many of them and looking at them never really bothered you. Except for the one in the top right corner. You put it there so you couldn't see it as easily. It was your favourite picture of the two of you, you were in front of an ice cream shop, the sun setting behind you. You were on Daniel's back, him tightly holding onto you. Both of you had wide grins on your faces. In all honesty is was an innocent picture, but the memory it triggered was so much deeper than that. Right after that picture was taken Daniel turned his head and said "I love you." It was the first time. All you did was stare at him and simply say "I love you too." He had let go of your legs and you got off his back. Daniel grabbed you by the waist and kissed you with so much passion. You looked down from the wall and got off your bed, not wanting the memory to play in your head any longer.

When Daniel got off the plane he ran to his family, hugging his parents and siblings tightly. Once he pulled out of his mom's arms he looked around, almost confused. "Where's y/n?"

You stood at Daniel's doorstep, heart beating fast and palms a little bit sweaty. You took a deep breath and knocked on the door, fully prepared to see Daniel. A wave of relief washed over you when Keri opened the door. "Hey love! Daniels in the back yard." You hugged her quickly. "Thanks Keri." You smiled. You made your way to the sliding screen door that led to the back yard. Through the glass you could see more people than you expected. Old friends of Daniel's, teachers and neighbours. You spotted him across the lawn. He was just as handsome as you remember, actually, probably more. His smile held just the same amount of kindness as he talked with your second grade teacher. You pulled your lip between your teeth and opened the door, stepping onto the grass. When you and Daniel met eyes your heart rate picked up again. He sent you a wide smile and a wave, to which you returned. He started walking over to you, you didn't move. "Hey." He said once he reached you. "Hey." You looked up at his hair. "It looks better in person than it does on instagram." You said playfully. Daniel smiled. Oh God his smile was perfect. "Thanks, the guys almost lost it when I showed them." "I'm pretty sure your fans did too." You we're trying your best not to let old feelings resurface, keeping your tone smooth. "Yeah." Daniel said it through a light laugh. "Daniel!" His name was called, tearing his eyes from you. "I gotta go, but we'll talk later ok?" You only nodded and watched him walk off. You hung around the back yard for awhile, talking with some people. But after about an hour, you decided you needed some space, just to let your thoughts go where ever they needed.

You stood on Daniel's front deck, leaning against the railing. The door opened and closed behind you and you could feel his presence beside you. "So you like Los Angeles?" You asked him, never looking away from the setting sun. Daniel looked at you for a moment too long before facing the same direction you were and answering. "Yeah, it's so great there. Everyone has a dream and a passion, they all want something." You nodded. "It's better for you there isn't it?" Daniel turned to you. "What do you mean?" You looked away from the sun and to him. "Everyone knows what they want there, just like you, your surrounded by people just as passionate as you are Daniel, that's better for you right? You feel more at home there then you ever did here." You didn't mean for it to be as emotional as it was, but the tears choked you from the back of your throat. Daniel took a step forward. "Well I mean, kinda. But I still miss my home." His eyes fell to the ground then came back up to you. He was trying his best not to admit he missed you the most. You admired his eyes for a minute before speaking again. "Tell me about it, L.A." Daniel nodded, both of you turning back to the railing. "Well, it's always warm and there's this consistent happy vibe. Everything in the city is bright, the sun, the colours, the clothes people wear." You smiled, he was really happy. "What about your band mates? I follow them on instagram, but tell me about them." Daniel smiled at the thought of his four best friends. "Well, there's Zach, he's a literal idiot, but you can't help but love him. He knows how to have some serious fun. Jack is funny as it gets, even when he isn't even trying, he just always makes us laugh. He's the best dad too, always looking out for little baby Lav. Jonah's the wise old owl. He gives the best advice and is overall one of the best people I have ever met. Corbyn's a serious nerd, but in the best way. He knows all this cool stuff about space and and as a weird obsession with shoes. You'd like his girlfriend, I think you guys would get along well." Once he finished he lifted his head to find you staring at him. "What?" He asked with a grin. "Nothing." You said before looking away. "Who or what do you miss the most James?" Daniel laughed. "I thought I'd be able to get through one visit without you calling me by my middle name." You smiled and shuffled closer to him. "You thought wrong...James." You looked at him for a a few moments. It was the first time you actually took in how different he looked. He had grown into his sharp features quite well. His blonde hair was something you weren't used to but getting use to it wouldn't be something you minded. His eyelashes were just as long as before and his eyes; nothing changed about his eyes, not even the way that they looked at you. "C'mon, who'd you miss the most?" Daniel contemplated his answer. "Probably my mom." You seemed unsatisfied with his answer. "Why won't you just admit it?" You were standing face to face now. "Admit what?" You stepped closer to him, poking him in the chest. "You miss me Seavey" you said, the sunset in front of you blazing in your eyes. "deep down, you miss me." you peered up at him through your eyelashes. "y/n" he whispered, your name falling from his lips smoothly. "I do miss you, not even deep down" he finally admitted, closing the space between your bodies.
