-Chapter 64: Elegy

I open my eyes as Kairi stands in front of me, her hand on the Magia's hand. What the heck? How come she is doing this?

I just got done seeing Horobi and Isamu decided to follow me out as someone got attacked by a Magia. I don't know how this one got hacked, but they did. Someone hacked a HumaGear somehow.

"Mari, are you doing alright?" Kairi asks me, turning to me as her eyes glow blue. Singularity? I may not really remember her, but she reminds me of my sister. Kiyoko...oh, I really miss her right now.

"Kairi, what are you doing?" Isamu asks. "You're going to get hacked if you stand there."

"It is impossible for me to be hacked at this moment, Isamu. No one can control my own destiny," Kairi responds. "If I have to pick what happens to myself, it'll be for me to become a shield for the ones I love and wish to keep safe no matter what." She looks back at the Magia.

"If I have to pick the one thing I want to do when you're in danger, Juli, it'll have to be being your shield. After all, you're the person I love the most in the world right now! Hehe!"

"You...you sound like-"

"Kiyoko, right?" She looks over her shoulder, staring down at me. "That is because I am Kiyoko. The disk you used to program me, Mari, contained a prototype program to pass on the mind of a human in digital form. While I am not a complete copy of who Kiyoko originally was, I am contain all her memories and her original feelings towards things."

"Huh?" I did what to Kairi now when I got her to program her personally? I know Hiden did some original programming, but I did kind of overwrite that just a little.

"What is that supposed to mean?" Isamu asks. "That you're part human mentally?"

Kairi squeezes the hand of the Magia harder, cracking it. "It means that Kiyoko, the original form of me, wasn't completely honest about her job to anyone. Before my original form died, I was looking into how to pass along human data to a HumaGear in order to complete resurrecting the dead." Her eyes return back to the Magia, focusing in on it.

Resurrecting the dead? So, that is why she gave me data on a disk for HumaGear programming? She didn't instruct me to pass it on and to use it myself when I could. I never really thought about what the disk would do if I used it. I just used it because it was a program that seemed usable and she wanted me to have it. She did want me to use it too and that is what I did.

She pushes the Magia back, moving it with ease. "Right now it is like I am both a HumaGear and Human in one, Isamu. My programming is the programming I left behind before I died in a car accident on the way to hang out with Mari."

So, she found a way to make herself exist again? Why didn't she tell me this? Did she know I would go out and make a HumaGear to get over her death? That I needed someone to stay by me no matter what?

"I'm not sure what I should do about this because it definitely violates some laws," Isamu comments. "Uh...I'll just forget about this and act like I have no knowledge of this going on."

"Just pretend she's a normal HumaGear," Aruto suggests. "We can't destroy her."

Kairi turns to me and leans forward, smiling softly. "I will do my best to assist you. And if that means fighting battles for you when you're unable to fight on your own, I will do so." She reaches out and takes my driver from me along with my Unity Key.

"Kairi!"

"It will be okay, Mari. You don't have to suffer any longer as long as I am here." She turns away from us and puts the driver on her waist, staring ahead at the Magia. She scans the key and puts in, staring the transformation.
