Lupe's Perspective

As Ben and I embarked on our mission to create a memorable pre-birthday surprise for Jennifer during our second day in Italy, the effects of jet lag clung to us like a stubborn shadow. Yet, our determination to have fun remained unwavering.

I gently entered Jennifer and Ben's room to discover the two of them fast asleep, creating a precious picture of serenity. My heart swelled with affection as I observed Jennifer's peaceful slumber. She looked simply adorable. With a delicate touch, I roused her, and she blinked at me in surprise.

"Mom, what brings you here?" Jennifer inquired, her voice still heavy with sleep.

"Come on, dear. We're going on an adventure," I whispered, careful not to disturb Ben.

Jennifer, with a curious expression, questioned, "Where are we headed?"

"Trust me, and you'll find out soon enough," I replied, smiling at her.

She nodded and climbed out of bed, clad in an oversized Boston t-shirt and comfortable boy shorts. In that moment, she appeared so small, reminiscent of her teenage years. It warmed my heart to see my little girl this way, even though she had grown into a remarkable young woman.

A soft chuckle escaped my lips as I planted a kiss on her forehead and enveloped her in a warm embrace. Jennifer, always affectionate, reciprocated the hug. I left the room to provide her with some privacy to change.

In no time, Jennifer emerged from her room, adorned with golden hoop earrings, a floral dress, Valentino sandals, and her cherished Hermes Kelly bag. Together, we embarked on our excursion, making our way to the elevator.

"Don't worry, I've already taken care of Juni – fed and changed her. Sera is looking after her right now," I assured Jennifer, noticing her gaze fixed on the baby monitor, which revealed Sera cuddling Juni.

"Thank you, Mom," Jennifer replied, her gratitude shining in her eyes.

"Of course," I responded with a smile, and we proceeded to the lobby to meet our awaiting car.

As we arrived at the restaurant, Jennifer remained engrossed in her phone, diligently responding to emails. I couldn't help but intervene.

"Jennifer, no more work. It's your birthday trip, and you're here to relax," I gently admonished, relieving her of her phone.

"Mom, I have a few emails related to Delola and JLo Beauty that I need to send," Jennifer protested with a sigh.

"Those can wait until after your trip, darling," I insisted, despite her annoyed pout.

"Fine," Jennifer acquiesced, her tone softened as she fell silent.

At the restaurant, we were handed menus, and I could sense Jennifer's ravenous appetite.

"What do you plan to order?" I asked.

Jennifer replied, "Two croissants and a coffee."

"Interesting choice. I'll have the same," I said, offering a warm smile.

The waitress, with a thick Italian accent, approached us, prompting me to place our order. "We'll have four croissants and two cappuccinos, please," I requested, smiling at her.

The moment allowed me to observe Jennifer fidgeting with her fingers, and I couldn't help but notice her unease."

Is everything okay?" I asked, placing my hand over hers to still her restless movements.
