"Come on, guys," Eli spoke with enthusiasm, looking between us all as we stood in the lobby of the hotel. "We have to celebrate!""I, for one, agree with Eli on this one," Demetri responded. "I wouldn't object to a night on the town. Besides, I'll need to do all the fun things I can before my time is taken up by all the hard—but meaningful—work I'll be doing at MIT."
Eli's excitement turned to annoyance instantly as Demetri spoke. Eli took a quick step towards Demetri, but I put my hand out in front of him. Eli paused, looking at my hand on his chest, before glancing at me and calming down.
Demetri looked back at him with a scowl, and Eli had no problem returning it.
"Cool it, guys," I told them both, before looking back at Robby and Sam. "I think it could be fun. It'll get our minds off the tournament for a bit—and off other things..."
I felt a small pang in my heart.
I wasn't able to get much information from Miguel and Sensei before they left, but I knew that something was wrong with the baby and that Carmen was in the hospital.
I don't know what I would do if she lost the baby; I didn't even want to think about it. But I couldn't even imagine how Sensei would feel if something bad happened and he wasn't there for Carmen—nor for the baby.
Miguel and Sensei are probably boarding the plane right now. I hope they get back in time.
I snapped back into reality and glanced at Sam, who nodded in silent agreement.
She was clearly still mad at me from the locker room argument, and honestly, I was still mad at her too. But Mr. LaRusso was finally back, so Sam felt a little better. That didn't change my situation, however.
"All right, since we're all in agreement, someone has to go to the senseis and ask if we can go," Eli said, before looking at me. "Y/n, you go ask them."
"What? Me? Hell no," I said. "It was your idea! You go!"
He sighed and nodded. "Fine, fine. Stay here; I'll be back," Eli said, before leaving the group and making his way to the senseis' room.
There was an awkward silence between those of us who waited for the senseis approval. Sam still wasn't really talking to me, Demetri was still upset with me about "stealing Eli from him," and Robby was just off in his own world, thinking about everything but the tournament.
Now I wish I had gone up to ask...
But it wasn't long before Eli came back out of the elevator and jogged towards us. "I ran into Sensei Chozen on the way there. We're good to go!"
I smiled as the group of us left the hotel and looked around for a place to hang out. Eli held my hand the whole time, his fingers intertwined with mine as we took in the beauty of the city.
Eventually, we stumbled upon a little tapas bar not too far from the hotel. It was a cool place—upbeat music, pretty lights strung up all around, an open dance floor. There were even some other Sekai Taikai competitors there too. But the best part is, there was a bar, and we were at the legal drinking age.
Eli and I paused when we walked in, taking in our surroundings.
I smiled over at him. "Wanna find us a table while I get us some drinks?" I asked.
Eli smiled and raised my hand to mouth, planting a light kiss on my fingers. "Sounds good, Princess."
He let go and began scoping out the building while I made my way over to the bar. I grabbed one of the drink menus and looked it over, deciding on what to get for Eli and I.
