What's worth the prize is always worth the fight
Every second counts 'cause there's no second try
So live like you'll never live it twice
Don't take the free ride in your own life
~ Nickelback, If Today Was Your Last Day

"How was that?" I question as he comes off the stage, hair dripping with sweat, makeup smeared and the largest smile plastered across his face. His shirt is no longer on his body and discarded somewhere near the drums.

The fans loved when that happened, but I can't blame them.

"So fucking good." Erik breathes out before taking the water bottle in my hands and chugging it.

"Looked like it." I laugh as he pours some of it on his hair and shakes it out like some wet lab, "Erik!"

"What?" He looks up at me and smirks when he sees the droplets rolling down my cheek, "was my performance that good?"

"Not tears you jerk, it's your nasty ass sweat. Go take a shower, you stink." I shoo him away as he tries to give me a hug.

"Come on Avril, give the monkey boy a hug, he deserves it after almost falling on his face," Lucas says as he walks by, giving Erik a little nudge while doing so.

"Hey, I didn't know the wire was around my ankle." I roll my eyes at the two of them and their antics.

Children.

"So two shows down, how many more?" Isla asks from beside me, a floppy hat covering her face from the June sun.

I asked her if she wanted to watch from backstage during the performance but she refused to, so we stood in the crowd with everyone else in the sun.

I'm waiting for tonight after she has a shower and the redness starts to show up.

Poor girl.

Maybe an outdoor tour all summer long wasn't the best thing for her.

"Who knows, but we are playing every show like it's our last," Devon comments as the 6 of us head towards the buses.

"Well, what do you want to do for the rest of the day? We aren't leaving till tonight and it's only... 3 p.m. We still have a full day." I tell them as I look down at my phone.

"I think I'm going to see some other bands with Devon and Kyle." Isla says as we stop in front of the bus, "I think they just want to get changed first."

"Lucas?"

"I'll probably join them, there are some pretty good bands this year and it will be fun being in the crowd again."

"Don't worry Ray, we can take an Uber into San Francisco if you want or we can hang around here."

"Let's go explore San Francisco, I have never been and I will be seeing these bands a ton this summer which I can't complain about."

"Alright it's settled, you get the Uber, I have an address in mind, while I fight these other fuckers for the shower."

And with that, the four of them take off running for the tiny little bus shower.

Heaven knows they all need one.

"What are you going to do in the city?" Isla asks we take a seat on the lawn chairs beside the bus.

"I'm not sure, maybe visit that Pier that is supposed to be popular."

"Oh that sounds like fun, maybe hint at a ring?" Isla winks at me while giving my shoulder a nudge.

"You really think Erik and I are at that stage?" I question, looking for any signs of teasing in her face.

None.
