Chapter 97: I'm so sorry Part 2

Peter was stuck in his cell while his father was in the scary room across the long hallway. Despite their separation, the boy could hear Steve's agnozing, blood-curdling screams as if he was right next to his papa, which provoked him to cover his ears and burst into tears. As tears streamed down his cheeks the cell door to the space where he and his papa were held captive opened.

The creaking sound conjoined to the sound of breathing caused Peter to open his eyes. When he did so, he found Steve bloodied and bruised with a hand holding himself up against a wall. Peter immediately scrambled toward his dad and took the hand that wasn't supporting the Avenger up.

"Papa?" He questioned.

Steve looked at him and raised his hand to his cheek, "I'm alright little love." He replied, tonight was the night, Steve was going to bust himself and his son out of this prison.

He was done, HYDRA would feel his wrath later, but all that matters now is getting his boy far away and never returning ten miles within the perimeter of this cold, old, rusty abandoned building.

Steve just needed to wait when the guards would come give them their food, once they got the usual stale bread and water, Steve mustered his strength and got up to see that the guard was asleep.

He looked at Peter and gave a nod to him to come to him, Peter walked to his father and Steve whispered into his ear. "Okay Pete, I need you to grab those keys from the guards pocket so I can unlock the door and we can leave." Steve explained.

"Won't we get caught papa?" Peter asked.

"No, this is our chance to leave and get back to living our lives again, we can go home. I need to be brave little love, can you do that for me?"

Peter nodded, "That's my boy." Steve kissed his forehead, and the plan was in full thrust. No matter what Steve was going to get Peter out of this evil place.

Peter crept up to the guard and reached through the bars, grabbing the keys and slowly pulling them in, handing them over to Steve, who took them and went to unlock the door, he outreached his hand for Peter to grab onto.

They opened the door and left, going down the many different hallways and stairs until finally getting to the exit, they saw that it was snowing. They definitely wouldn't last long walking in the cold, but Steve saw a room with a bunch of coats and winter gear.

He led Peter back to that room and grabbed everything, a backpack with a lot of stuff inside like food, he grabbed a coat and boots, putting one set on himself and the other on Peter. Then he grabbed a lantern obviously to use and see in the dark.

After Steve got everything he and fourteen year old Peter finally exited the facility, they trekked the snowy biome on foot walking for hours, Steve sighed out of relief knowing he finally got him and his son away from HYDRA.

Now all he needed to do was find some transportation, walking was only going to last them so long. With Steve still being injured, and Peter being weak, they either had to find shelter or transportation.

With luck there was a bus station, with people boarding it, Steve and Peter rushed faster to get on it. The bus driver stopped them, oh right they had to pay money to actually use the bus's services.

"Please ma'am my son and I have had a long walk, we're tired and all we want to do is get home. I need to get my son back to his mother." Steve said.

The woman looked at Peter seeing his tired eyes, she looked back at Steve and nodded. Steve gave her a grateful smile, walking with Peter and sitting down in a seat. Peter instantly fell asleep leaning his head on Steve's shoulder.

Steve caressed his son's cheek and sighed, they were one step closer to home, he looked up and saw that the next stop was New York. He smiled, that's where they lived.

"If there are any passengers headed to New York this is your stop." Steve woke up, he must've dozed off for a while. He looked around and could see they were in New York, his eyes widened, he woke Peter up and they hurriedly got off the bus after paying their thanks to the bus driver.

Steve knew exactly where they needed to go, to the Avengers compound where they would find the person they've been wanting to see ever since HYDRA captured them. They took a taxi and got to the compound, Steve took off his and Peter's coat, since it was summer.

(Also yes, I'm aware that you can't drive from Germany to New York so let's ignore that tiny error, and the fact that it was winter then it was summer, we're going to ignore that as well.)

They buzzed in and then the gates opened, Steve held Peter's hand the entire time he could tell he was a little nervous. Once they got to the actual compound doors they opened and walking in they were met by Tony, Bruce, and Natasha.

Natasha ran to them and immediately pulled Peter and Steve in for a hug, she was crying in fact they were all crying she hugged them tightly as they all sank to the ground. "Mama." Peter said.

(It's been a while since I've written some Romanogers so I thought eh why not.)

"It's okay Bambi, I'm here. Don't worry you're safe now." Natasha said combing her fingers through Peter's hair.

After a few minutes Bruce took them to get them a check up, both Steve and Peter had multiple bruises and scars, but nothing major like breaks or anything. So they were cleared but they needed to take it easy.

Later that night Steve got to his and Natasha's room, his wife sat next to him and began to talk. "I've missed you so much, I didn't know where you were and I never stopped looking. But eventually I thought I lost y-"

Steve cut her off and they kissed, he cupped her cheek wiping the stray tear running down her face. "I've missed you so much too, and I promise you no one will ever keep us apart again." He said.

He was about to kiss her again when they heard a knock on the door, it opened and revealed Peter who was in pajamas holding his stuffed animal Bun-Bun. (Bun-Bun is back y'all! Because she's iconic 😌💅)

"Mama can I stay with you and Papa? I don't want to be alone." He said.

"Of course you can sweetheart." Peter smiled and climbed into bed and fell asleep in his parents arm's, his papa was finally safe, he was finally safe, everyone was safe.
