It was the next day and Daryl and Madelyn had left the Kingdom. Daryl had found Carol who just didn't want to be involved with anything that was going on and so, Daryl didn't say anything to her. The couple tried convincing Ezekiel to change his mind but there was no convincing him. Daryl wanted to leave and so him and Madelyn head off for the Hilltop.
It was nightfall at this point as Madelyn watched everyone. Daryl was next to her, whittling a new arrow. Maggie was cooking, Sasha was with Jesus and Enid. Madelyn got up from her spot and walked around a little until she found Glenn's grave. She sighed before picking up a little daisy that was growing out of the ground. Madelyn sat next to Glenn's grave and placed the daisy on top of the fresh soil.
"Hey, buddy." She said. Meanwhile, Daryl was still whittling his arrow and he was so focused on it, he didn't realise Madelyn had left. He looked around but didn't see her anywhere so he quickly got up. He saw Maggie in the distance but didn't approach her. He wasn't ready to talk to her. Daryl had a little look around until he heard Madelyn's voice so he followed it until he saw Madelyn sitting next to Glenn's grave. He stood a little distant from her so she couldn't see him but he could hear everything and he couldn't help but feel his heart grow heavy.
"I miss you so much, Glenn. All the time I spend in Alexandria, it's so weird not seeing you on the streets anymore." Madelyn said as she felt her eyes tear up. "Sometimes, I'd hear a piece of gossip and I'd think to myself, 'Oh my god, I need to tell Glenn', and then I remember that you're not here anymore."
Daryl was so overwhelmed with guilt. If only he was able to contain himself that day, if only he didn't punch Negan, Glenn would still be alive. This was all his fault.
"You know, I remember that day we met, when you saved Rick and I from that swarm of walkers in the city. I asked you, 'why did you help us?' and your response was 'call it foolish, naive, hope. That if I'm ever that far up Shit Creek, that somebody might do the same for me.' I'm sorry. I'm sorry I couldn't do something. You saved our lives that day and you didn't even know us and I couldn't do anything but watch. I'm so sorry, Glenn. I'm sorry you won't be able to see your child, I'm sorry I did nothing to save your life. You must think I'm a terrible best friend, huh? I probably am. I hope you're at peace now. I hope you're in a better place. I hope you're happy." Madelyn said as she wiped her tears. "I love you so much."
Daryl hung his head low as he listened. He felt so terrible. After everything he did, causing Glenn's death, Madelyn and Maggie were still with him, still standing by him. Why? He sighed as he held in his tears and walked away with a heavy heart.

It was the next morning and Madelyn was talking to Jesus. He looked a little distressed so she went to ask him what was wrong.
"Hey, is everything okay?" She asked him.
"I don't know. Sasha and Rosita want to go after Negan." Jesus said, making Madelyn's eyes widen.
"What? Are they crazy? They're going to get themselves killed. Carl got lucky. I don't think they will." Madelyn said.
"I know and they won't even let me tell Maggie. You cannot tell her, Madelyn. If she finds out, they're both gonna know I said something." Jesus said.
"But what if something happens to them?" Madelyn asked.
"We just have to hope that they'll be okay." Jesus sighed before everyone heard one of the lookouts at the gate calling out to everyone.
"The Saviours are coming!" He called out.
"Oh god. Daryl!" Madelyn called out and he and Maggie approached her.
"I'm gonna go deal with this." Jesus said before quickly running.
"The Saviours don't know that any of us are here." Madelyn said as Enid approached them.
"Hide down here." Enid said, opening the doors to a little storage place built on the side of Barrington House where the food was stored. "I'll keep them away. Daryl, Madelyn and Maggie all went inside and closed the doors behind them before hiding behind the shelves right at the back. Luckily, it was dark inside so it would be hard to spot them.
As they hid, the three heard Enid trying to distract a Saviour who was close to the trap door but the Saviour wasn't having any of it. He sent Enid away and went into the trap door, seeing stocks of food on the shelves. Maggie, Daryl and Madelyn stayed hidden as they watched the Saviour look through the stuff they had. As the Saviour got closer to them, he grabbed a box of food and turned away as Daryl pulled a knife out but Maggie and Madelyn quickly stopped him. If he killed the Saviour, he would most definitely get caught by the rest of them. Daryl sighed and stood down as the Saviour left and closed the door behind him.
Everyone came out of hiding and Daryl looked through the small gaps of the door. "He's gone." Daryl said.
"You were going to kill that guy." Maggie said.
"He was going to find us." Daryl said.
"He wasn't, D, and he didn't." Madelyn said.
"He deserved to die." Daryl said, not looking at either of them.
"Daryl, what's going on with you?" Madelyn asked in concern. "Ever since you got back, you've been acting distant."
"She's right. Ever since you got here, you haven't said a word to me." Maggie said and Daryl turned around, sniffing softly. Daryl was crying and it broke Madelyn's heart.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." He cried as he looked at the two.
"Daryl, stop." Madelyn said, going to touch his arm but he stepped back.
"Daryl, it wasn't your fault." Maggie said.
"It was. I killed your husband. I killed Maddie's best friend." Daryl said as tears ran down his face.
"No, it was not your fault, Daryl. It wasn't." Madelyn said as she wiped his tears.
"You're one of the good things in this world." Maggie said. "That's what Glenn thought and he would know 'cause he was one of the good things, too."
Everyone began tearing up, thinking of Glenn. They all loved him and Glenn loved them all. He was special to all of them. No-one could have predicted that Negan would kill him.
"We want to kill all of them, every last one of those damn Saviours and we will. We will get justice for Glenn. We have to win this war, for Glenn, for Abraham, for Spencer, Olivia, for our future. For our babies, for Maggie's baby." Madelyn said. "We have to."
Maggie and Daryl nodded and they all went in for a group hug. "Sorry, baby belly is in the way." Madelyn said with a soft laugh, making Daryl and Maggie smile and let out a soft laugh as they all hugged.
