You stood against the wall. It was your party, and you were too awkward to actually interact. Technically, it was your parents' party for you, but either way, your house was full of random friends of your parents and their snobby kids.

You made eye contact with your mom and nodded towards the door, begging through your eyes to leave the room.

She hesitated before giving you a discreet nod.

You mentally fist pumped and left the room. You started for the stairs when you noticed someone sitting on them. As you were about to tiptoe away, the guy stood up, looking like he'd be caught in the act of something.

"Oh, sorry. Am I not supposed to be over here?" he fretted, quickly hopping off of the stairs.

"Oh, no. You're fine," you assured him. "I was just- I was just hiding from my own party."

You both awkwardly stood several feet away from each other. Where he was adjusting the sleeves of his button-down shirt, you were shuffling your feet. The only noise was the light chatter from the living room.

"So," he started, "you're Y/N?" Your expression made him facepalm. "Yeah, I guess that was pretty obvious. I'm Wyatt Donnelly, by the way."

You laughed at his realization. "Donnelly sounds familiar. I'm sure our dads go golfing together or something. Wait, you have an older sister, don't you?"

He nodded. "Yeah."

"I think I went to her sweet 16 several years ago," you recalled.

"Probably. I'm pretty sure the entire town was there."

"That's how most of these things go," you sighed. "If your parents know each other's names, they're getting invited."

"It's ridiculous." He shook his head. "So why are you hiding from your party?"

"I don't like or know most of the people here."

"I know most of the people here," he stated, "but I don't think any of them like me much."

"Why not?" You were actually curious. He was both cute and easy to talk to.

"I've never said anything more than hi to them," he explained. "I'm usually not so chatty."

"Me neither."

"I guess we're in the same situation then. That must be why I can talk to you."

You felt your cheeks get warm. "Yeah. I guess so."

"There's only ever been one other girl I've ever been able to talk to," he added. "But she was more like a big sister/life coach though."

"Interesting relationship," you replied. Then you suddenly thought of something. "Oh! I remember why I knew your name- I mean besides your sister. You had that blow out party at your house almost a year ago. It was quite the scandal." You grinned widely, happy that you had remembered that piece of information.

This time it was him that blushed. "That was all Lisa's doing. Gary, my friend, and I were just kind of there."

"Lisa was the big sister/life coach?"

"Yeah. She was crazy," he mused.

"She sounds great."

Once again, an awkward silence settled.

Wyatt broke it by clearing his throat. "So, Y/N, I was wondering if you'd like to I don't know, hide from another party with me some time. I heard the Smiths' son is having his 18th soon."

You smiled and nodded. "That sounds great."

Idk how to feel about this one... I think it's kinda random but oh well. M'kay.
