"Stop whining, Dallas. You're fine." Sophie said, "Unless, you're soft, and can't take a little weight?"

"Fine." he huffed, "But seriously, get off of me."

"Dal, ya should stay like that. Get you some humility." Maria said, smirking.

"If ya weren't my sister, I'd wallop you." Dallas muttered.

"How reassuring." Maria said, dryly.

"Hey, Alyssa." Evelyn said, brushing herself off. "How are you?"

"How's Johnny?" she asked, "I wish I knew if he's okay."

Evelyn whispered something, before pulling her into a hug.

"How was your day?" Evelyn asked.

"Fine." she replied, "I hung out at the DX, and helped Soda. Steve hates me."

"Is this true?" Darry asked, glaring at Steve. "I thought you said you weren't going to be so hateful."

"I'm sorry!" Steve said, mumbling through the chocolate cake in his mouth. He held up his hands, which were messy from the chocolate cake. "I don't hate her, it's just hard to not be prickly."

"Try harder." Darry ordered, before turning to Alyssa. "Alyssa, do you want a real lunch?" He glanced at Pony, who was trying to sneak some cake. "Ponyboy Michael Curtis! No cake until you've eaten lunch!"

I can easily sneak the whole cake away, without anyone noticing. Tam shadow whispered.

"I know you can, but don't." I muttered, shaking my head at my prickly twin.

"This is lunch!" Pony protested.

"Real lunch food." Darry sighed, watching Pony rummage through the fridge. "Sorry, Alyssa."

"It's fine." she said, "I'd like some, if it isn't too much trouble."

"Nothing's too much trouble. Not for a member of the gang." Darry smiled. "I've got chicken, if ya want."

"Okay." she  whispered, "Thanks."

"No problem." Darry chuckled. "Soda, what are you doing?" He trying to take the whole cake.

"Cutting myself a piece?" Soda said, smiling. "A very big piece."

Darry shook his head. "That's the whole cake, minus the piece Steve has!" He took the cake, and cut a reasonable sized piece for Soda. "What am I gonna do with you?" he murmured to himself.

"Let me have the whole cake?" Soda grinned, "Please?"

"No way." Darry ruffled Soda's hair.

"Hey!" Soda tried to fix his hair.

"Alyssa, here's your lunch." Pony said shyly, holding out a plate.

"Thanks." she smiled at him, making him blush, before glancing at Evelyn. Her face fell when she saw Evelyn's heartbroken expression. "Evelyn, you okay?" Alyssa asked.

"No." Evelyn muttered.

She set down the plate. "What's wrong?" she asked, putting her hand on Evelyn's shoulder. Evelyn whispered something, and Alyssa nodded.

"I won't." Alyssa hugged her, before marching over to Pony.

"How's Evelyn?" he asked, oblivious to the way Evelyn looked at him, and how much he'd hurt her, by ignoring her.

"Why aren't you talking to her?" she asked, "Do you have any idea how much you've hurt her?"

"What?" he asked, "I didn't think she'd want to talk to me. It was my fault." He looked broken. I winced, knowing the guilt could easily break him.
