"Sophie, do you know why we can control the shadows?" Tara asked.

"Or why I can do this?" Lara created an orb of light.

"I don't know for sure, but my best guess is that the Black Swan tweaked your genes. Or for some reason, your parents decided to put you in the Forbidden Cities." I said.

"But you're not alone." Fitz said, "We're here to help you."

"Why don't I have anything?" Cara asked.

"Well, most elves don't manifest as young as Sophie did." Fitz said, "You still have time to manifest."

But what if she isn't an elf? I asked.

I'm pretty sure she is. Look at her eyes. Fitz transmitted.

I looked at her eyes, which were bright blue.

You're right. That shade of blue isn't normal for humans. I said.

"Well, is there anything we can do to help?" Zara said.

"I could tell you about the Lost Cities." I suggested.

"Okay." Cara said, "Could you tell about when you met him?" She pointed to Fitz.

"Sure." I smiled at her curiosity. "With my photographic memory, school was very easy, so I was the twelve year old high school senior."

"She had a field trip to the museum, where I was reading the article about her." Fitz said.

"That article made my mom so mad." I said. My human mom. She's not my real mom, but I love her. At least I know that my human family's alright.

"What was it about?" Tara asked.

"It was about how I chose to go to a college near home, rather than one far away."

"Oh."

"Anyways, I was at the museum, when I saw him." I said, "He had the article in his hand, which kind of freaked me out. Especially when I saw the way he was looking at me."

"Your eyes really threw me off." Fitz said, "I never saw a brown eyed elf, before you. Every other elf has blue eyes."

"And you blinked. That really freaked me out." I said.

"You freaked me out, when you read my mind. Without any training." Fitz said, "I had gotten used to having a strong mind."

"You got too comfortable." I said.

"You're right." Fitz said.

"Hey, guys!" Tam said, walking inside. "Sophie, you're going to have to take over schooling them."

"Who?" I asked.

Linh walked in. "Well, Randy is awful, the principal is crooked, and they're suspended."
