The first day back at work. Something I used to love, now something I fear more than anything.

What could possibly go wrong?

The phrase always said before shit hits the fan.

Oh, how lovely cliches can be.

Connor had been talking the entire car ride, trying to calm me down but only elevating my stress levels by allowing his own worries to wash over onto me. I knew he meant well, but his advice was not making me feel any better.

"If you get overwhelmed just tell me and I can —"

"Connor," As we pulled up to the station I turned in my seat to look at him with a serious expression on my face

"Connor," As we pulled up to the station I turned in my seat to look at him with a serious expression on my face. "I promise if it's too much I'll go home, okay? I have to go back to my normal life... I can't just sit at home or at CyberLife hoping for things to get better."

With that I got out of the car, taking a deep breath as I walked through the doors.

It'll be fine.

Connor had tried to keep me home as long as he could, but the longer I stayed at home, the worse my stress got.

Just breathe.

"Maybe no one will have noticed my absence." I mumbled more to myself than him as I followed him towards the desks.

What followed made me take back that statement.

All of my colleagues stood from their desks, applauding me. I felt my stress levels rise and I tried to calm the warmth rushing into my face.

I'd rather not look like Barney the purple fucking dinosaur, thank you!

"Good to have you back, Price." Captain Fowler held his hand out, shaking mine.

"It's good to be back sir." I faked a smile, trying to keep my shaking body under control.

Chris was the next to welcome me, pulling me into a hug. "I'm glad you're okay! When I saw what happened on the news—"

"Yeah, I'm great." I lied through my teeth, feeling Connor's hand on my back calming me slightly. "It took a while but I'm finally better."

"Yeah, they wouldn't let us see you. We tried visiting —"

"Yeah, I was under strict supervision for a while — y'know they wanted to make sure I was fully healed before having others around me

"Yeah, I was under strict supervision for a while — y'know they wanted to make sure I was fully healed before having others around me. They didn't even let Hank see me until just last week."

"We all saw the news last night. Your role as the official human — android ambassador sure is... interesting."

I clenched my fist for a moment, trying to calm the racing beat of my heart. "Y-yeah, I mean you know, I'm all for equality."

Chris nodded as he took a step back, nodding behind me where Gavin was walking towards us.

"So it is true. The princess is finally back."

I sighed deeply, turning to face Gavin with a smile

I sighed deeply, turning to face Gavin with a smile. "Don't tell me you missed me too, Reed?"

"You? Never." Gavin had a stupid smirk on his face, causing me to roll my eyes. "It's been a boring few weeks without you to torment."

"I could've went a few more weeks without the torment." I turned away from him, walking over to my desk.

That went relatively well.

I ran my hand along my chair, feeling eyes following my every move.

"You're staring."

I looked over at Connor, smiling softly. He had a serious expression on his face, and his LED had been a constant yellow since we left home that morning. "You don't have to analyze me every five seconds, Con. I'm okay."

"I'm merely making sure that —"

"I'm merely making sure that —"

"That I'm not going to self destruct?" I touched his face gently, "Connor, I—"

"Price! Come to my office!"

I sighed, leaning up to give Connor a small peck on the cheek before hurrying off to the captains office.

What could this possibly be about?

"I know what's going on."
