A/n: Hey my dudes! I'm so mad that summer is already like a third of the way done :( . It's not okay. I'm also bummed that when I deleted most of the A/Ns on this book it got rid of 9K reads... but I wanted to be able to write more actual chapters. I hope to write until I can't write any more, and I hope you guys are going to continue to read this and stay by me until the very end. It's sad to think about this book being over, but I'm only around one-hundred chapters, so we got a long way to go.

Anyways, enjoy!

You couldn't help but stare at him when he wasn't looking. You always gazed at him while eating meals, from all away across the Great Hall from your Hufflepuff table to his Ravenclaw one. He was so kind and funny with his friends, you knew. But with everyone else he seemed kind of distant in some way, even if he was popular.

There was no way you would have the guts to approach him, he was just too perfect for you, you thought; kind, intelligent, funny—and gorgeous too! There was no way, you, a shy Hufflepuff, could initiate a conversation.

You had no idea that he felt the same way.

He would longingly gaze at you from afar. Potions class gave him the perfect opportunity; from his back corner seat he could see you perfectly. You had some kind of special presence that always made him happier—that made him feel better.

You were quiet and shy, he knew, so when he got to hear your voice on the rare occasions you'd be called on or raise your hand, he would smile and try to imagine what it would be like to have his own conversation with you.

You were absolutely adorable to him, both in how you looked and in what you did; The way you would bite your lips while focusing, how you would light up while talking about something you loved, how you were always so kind and nice to everyone around you.

You were so pure, and how could he compare to that?

With the Yule Ball approaching, everyone was trying to find dates and clothes to wear. While you wished your crush would ask you, Matt hoped that someone already hadn't. Yet, he still wasn't sure if he actually would ask you. There were so many girls that wanted to go with him, and maybe that would be easier than going with the girl he had been crushing on ever since she appeared in his class. Still, they weren't you...

The few times he managed to see you in the halls, along with meals and your shared class, he would be reminded of the Ball coming up soon.

"You should ask her," Pidge said to him during passing time one morning.

"What do you mean?"

"Don't play coy," Pidge snickered. "You know what I'm talking about." She raised her brows up and down suggestively.

"I don't—"

"Hey, Matt! When are you going to ask your girlfriend to the Ball?" Lance came running up to the both of them.

"G-girlfriend?"

"Yeah, that Hufflepuff you're so in looovvvveee with." Pidge and him laughed.

"Hey, guys, what are you talking about?" Hunk asked, meeting up with them as well.

"About (y/n)," Pidge stated bluntly.

"Is she still available?" Lance asked quickly after.

"Guys!" Matt blushed.

"From what I've heard, yes. But that's as of yesterday, and I overheard someone saying they were going to ask her if she wasn't asked by then."

"Oh, you better hurry than, Matt," Lance slapped his shoulder. "When does he have until?"

"Tonight."

"Guys!" Matt said, slightly annoyed with his friends. "Stop making decisions for me, if I want to ask her I will."

"Come on," Lance said. "We're just teasing. But we do see the way you look at her, don't you want to ask her?"

"He's right," Pidge agreed, "and if someone is going to ask her tonight..."

Matt sighed. "Fine, I'll ask her. You guys convinced me." He walked into his next class: Potions, leaving the three high-fiving friends behind.

How was he supposed to ask you, he thought. When was he going to get the chance before whoever was going to ask you did? He figured the only time would be during this class, so he nervously started to drum his fingers against his desk. The class passed faster than he had wanted; he wanted more time to think this through—to muster up the courage, and he wanted this to be somewhat special. You deserved it. But everything he had thought of disappeared after you left the room and he had to push his way through the crowd to make it to you in time.

"(Y/n)!" He called. You turned around to see Matt running towards you. The moment he looked into your eyes he knew he was doomed.

"Matt?" You replied.

He was finally having a conversation with you. "I-I-I was..." He looked behind you to see Hunk, Pidge and Hunk, silently cheering him on. "I was wondering if you would like to go to the Yule Ball with me?"

"W-with me?" You asked, seeming unsure that you heard him correctly. Matt nodded, a blush covering his cheeks. "I-I'd love to."

A small smile appeared on your face, and Matt couldn't help but smile back. "Good," He said. "Well, I'll see you later then?"

"Yeah, see you later," You said before both parting ways.

"I see you!" Lance said when Matt walked up to him. "Gettin' some!"

"Shut up!"

"Hey, we got you a date!" Lance objected.

"Well, actually, I got myself a date."

"I hate to break it to you," Pidge met eyes with Hunk and Lance, "But we kinda did."

Matt thought for a minute. "No one was going to ask her, weren't they?"

The three burst out onto laughter. "Aw, my big brother using that Ravenclaw brain of his."

"I hate you!" Matt said, laughing once more. "All of you!" But it was far from that, actually. He really appreciated the lie—he never thought he'd say that. But now he would be attending the Yule Ball with you, his crush, and man was he ecstatic.
