Chapter 58: Ralph

Venom Snake's POV

I am resting in my quarters. I then get a call from Kaz.

Kaz: Boss, there's been an accident in the boys' quarters.

Venom Snake: What happened?

Kaz: A pile of steel pipes gave way and crushed one of the kids. The boy named Ralph... They tell me he died instantly.

Venom Snake: What?!

Kaz: I'm sorry, Boss. It's my fault. I should have been keeping an eye on them... I'll let you know if we learn something.

Venom Snake: Please do...

Timeskip

I heard that something was going on at the base. I walk to one of the platforms to see Ocelot, Kaz, and other soldiers keeping kids away from one of the lower levels of the base. It was full of some kind of gas.

Venom Snake: What's going on?

Kid: Shabani... Shabani's...necklace...

The kid points at the floor full of gas.

Venom Snake: It's down there?

I start walking toward the ledge of the floor.

Ocelot: Hey!

Ocelot grabs me and pulls me away.

Ocelot: The tank at the bottom is filled with chlorine disinfectant. One whiff and you'll suffocate.

Kaz: Don't even--

Kaz looks at the kid.

Kaz: How could you let it fall down there, anyway?

The kid stays silent. He then looks behind me and yells.

Kid: No!

I quickly look behind me to see Quiet jumping down the hole to the lower floor. I run to the ledge.

Venom Snake: Hit the alarm!

Ocelot runs over and grabs me.

Ocelot: No!

Ocelot pulls me away.

Ocelot: You go down there and it is over.

I push Ocelot aside and run back for the ledge to the floor.

Kaz: Boss!

Ocelot pulls me away again.

Ocelot: Hey! Listen to me! There is no way to recover the body!

I look down and frown.

Venom Snake: No... DAMNIT!!!

Kaz limps over to where the ledge is.

Kaz: What kind of stunt was that. Trying to panic us...

Kaz limps away from the ledge. The kids then suddenly runs past me and to the ledge. I turn around to see Quiet trying to climb up!

Venom Snake: Move!

I push the kids aside and grab Quiet. I pick her up and help her. She is covered in blisters. She drops Shabani's necklace on the floor. I start taking her to the medical platform.

Timeskip

I take Quiet to the medical facility. I walk to a doctor.

Venom Snake: She needs treatment!

Doctor: Oh my.... Follow me, Boss!

I follow the doctor to a room. I place Quiet on the bed.

Doctor: We'll take care of her.

Venom Snake: Thank you...

As I turn to leave, I feel Quiet grab my arm tightly. I look at her to see her giving me a painful look. And the look that tells me "don't go."

Venom Snake: It'll be okay... these doctors will take care of you.

I put my free arm on Quiet's arm. Quiet let's go of me. Quiet then calms down. I leave the medical facility.
