Ana Loree

"Ana Loree...Ana Loree..." the whisper in the air tingled my ears and my eyes snapped open, to the cold dark room. Even at the trance state, I wondered why was I named Ana Loree, a weirdo? Like I always wondered, as long as I could remember.

Shoving the warm covers, I sat up looking around, confusion coating my feature. Deciding to close the window I walked up to it and stood mesmerized in the elegance of the castle, drenching in the moonlight, again. Strangely familiar, the castle attracted me from the moment I set eyes on it, only three days ago and it felt like I lived there for eternity and got a vibe that I was at home, well, to be exact, so damn near home.

Residing in the house outside the castle walls, me and my mom waited for Monday to arrive faster so that we could enter the castle but for vast different reasons. Mom to do her job, interior designing and painting while mine was just a curiosity.

"Ana Loree... Ana Loree," again the whisper shot to my ears which sent chills up my spine and I shivered though I did not know whether it was the whisper or the cool breeze striking my bare skin from the fields and woods through the open window.

Shutting the window and clutching the satin night robe tightly around me, I sat on my bed looking around terrified to go back to sleep. Few seconds passed and the whisper had stopped with the closed glass of the window. I lay down, thinking if there was a reason for every event happening in life. Dozing off without knowledge, I woke up to the warmth of the Monday sun and with exciting heart, started the day.

The gate was ajar when mom and I stepped out of the house unlike the past three days when the door was closed tight for 24/7.

"Ana behave yourself and don't be naughty," my mom advised and I rolled my eyes.

"Mom," I grunted and she stopped me with a wave of her hand.

"This is the greatest opportunity in my career, Ana. We can't see such castles back home."

My ability to grasp disappeared suddenly, muting my mom's words while my breath was knocked out of me with my first step inside the gates, not just because of the castle's beauty but by the inexplicable emotions that overwhelmed me.

Barking their throat out, two dogs came running viciously and when they met my eyes, they cooed like babies and wriggling their tails, they stopped abruptly. That was strange as I was not much of a dog person.

"Welcome Mrs. Strike and Miss. Strike," the Butler welcomed us with a tantalizing hospitality, "Master awaits you," he said smiling charmingly.

Aimless roaming around the castle hauled me to the places I was unknowingly familiar with, thereby putting me in the position before a large door that opened on my will.

Pushing the door open, I entered the well lit and organized room. I called out to see if I was disturbing someone else's privacy and stood like an inanimate for a few seconds. When I didn't get any reply, I glided into the room without any hesitation as if it was my own.

Neat and clean, the room was huge for my taste but had too many things of my liking. That room could be mine but it was not and I thought may be it belonged to someone with a similar taste as mine.

Wardrobe filled with old kind of dresses - hooded gowns, hats, umbrellas, corsets, stalkings were arranged row after row that might have belonged to a certain girl who lived two hundred or three hundred years ago in the room. Feeling the fabrics in my hands that was strangely familiar, I checked through the dresses when the table holding something shiny got my attention. It was a portrait of a girl named 'Eleanora' and I was shocked to my bones to see the resemblance between me and her.

Quickly, taking out my mobile from my skirt pocket, I examined my own selfie with the portrait and the resemblance was unquestionable, only she was pretty old fashioned.

Struck by the terror unfolding in front of my eyes, I sat on the sofa beside the table taking the small portrait along with me.

"It is you my dear!," a voice from the door swept through me but I dint flinch as I should have and without turning, I knew, to whom the voice belonged to and shaking visibly I analysed the possibilities of me in the portrait while at the same time tackling the emotions overwhelming my heart that seemed to be longing for such love.

"You are named Ana Loree for a reason!," he imparted and I gasped.
