Rahul sat beside Manan in the canteen.

"Hey man, what's up?"

Manan looked up at him and gave him a dejected look before replying, "I failed in my exam yesterday Rahul."

"What! How's that even possible?" Rahul was shocked.

"Yes, I know. And guess what, it wasn't because I didn't know the answers. But because I reached late."

Rahul just shook his head. He couldn't suppress his laughter in front of his best friend. "Just try and be a little punctual from now on, my friend."

But Manan was already lost in his thoughts.

"You know what Rahul, I sometimes wonder how our whole life is governed by the years. But then, all these years fly past in months; and these months in days.

"But than these days have their hours; and these hours are split into the minutes. And finally come the smallest of them all, seconds."

Rahul was stunned by how deep his friend was going on such a minor topic. But before he could speak anything, Manan was on again.

"I've decided now Rahul. For me to be punctual, I've to control this smallest chink governing my life. I'm going to make a timetable for every second of tomorrow."

And so Manan made a timetable for each second of his next day. It went on something like,

07:00:00 Hear the alarm clock.

07:00:01 Still hear the alarm clock.

07:00:02 Extend the right arm.

07:00:03 Touch the clock.

07:00:04 Stop the alarm.

07:00:05 Stretch the right hand.

07:00:06 Stretch the left hand.

07:00:07 Stretch the whole body.

07:00:08 Try opening the eyes.

07:00:09 Finally open the eyes.

07:00:10 Get off the bed.

.

.

.

.

And so on...

Next day.

"So how did it go?" Rahul asked.

"Just don't ask. I was so excited for this. But my whole timetable scampered the very first second." Manan said.

"Why?" Rahul asked smiling a little.

"I couldn't shake my sleep off."

With that, Rahul held his stomach and laughed so hard, every eye in the canteen turned towards them.
