the cactus

hey guys!! i'm going to repost the rewritten/edited imagines everyday! i want to be able to be done with editing them all by the time school starts aug. 16th!!

"can we have a baby?"

you choke on your water, and set the glass down on his nightstand.

"what?! we're only 18, luke!"

"okay, then can we at least get like a puppy or something?"

"no luke, we don't have enough time or money for a puppy," you say, your eyes wide as you cross the room and sit next to him..

"how about a plant? we can get one from the store and it can be our baby for now?" you suggest.

"okay, let's go, no time to waste!"

luke practically drags you out his front door and opens the car door for you. you get in and luke jogs around the front of his car and into the drivers seat. luke backs out of his driveway and drives straight to lowe's. he parks and the two of you walk inside, hand in hand.

"okay, so what type of plant should we get?" luke asks.

"it's up to you babe."

"really?" luke questions, his eyes wide, mouth hung open.

you nod your head and he drags you to the plant section. he picks up a small cactus with red flowers on it. his face brightens as he admires it.

"let's get this one!"

"alright, lukey."

you both wandering down the aisle looking for pots until you finally spot the perfect sized one. you pick it up and he hums is approval. luke pulls you, the cactus, and the pot to check out. he pays for it and the two of you are on the way home, the cactus perched in your lap.

"is it okay if we keep it at my house because if you want, we can keep it at your—"

"yes luke, we can keep it at your house," you say laughing at his eagerness.

"okay, great, thanks so much babe," you chuckle at his rambling.

you both make it back to his house and walk up the stairs to his room. once you're there, luke pulls the cactus out of the plastic container and sets it into the pot. luke picks up the pot and leaves it in his windowsill.

"i promise to take care of our child, he says in all seriousness, referring to the plant.

"i know you will luke, i'll see you later," you kiss him goodbye and drive home.

it's been a week since you and luke got your cactus. luke had invited you over to watch a movie with him. you make your way to his house and ring the doorbell. ellen answers and she gives you a hug. right before you're about to go up the stairs, ellen pulls you aside.

"y'know, he loves that cactus, he makes sure it's in the sun, he waters it, and he even talks to it sometimes."

"really?" you were surprised that he was taking such good care of it.

she nods her head.

"i'm proud of him, no plant has ever lasted that long in this house."

you laugh at her teasing and walk to luke's room. you see him sitting on his bed.

"he."

"hey babe! look the cactus is growing," he says in awe, pointing at the new growth on the cactus.

you laugh and shake your head at him.

"your really serious about this then, huh?"

"of course i am, why wouldn't i be?" he asks with furrowed brows.

"cacti are pretty low maintenance that's all." you say pushing the curls out of his face.

"i know that, i'm just getting ready for the future," he says, winking at you.

"i'm sure you are, lukey." you say pulling him into a kiss.

luke pulls back and puts his hand on your cheek. he smiles softly at you before saying,

"next step, is a dog."
