Dormitory Room

"And the top student of this year's exam, Andrea de la Valliere." Said the announcer habang pumalakpak ang mga estudyante sa buong stadium.

The Entrance Ceremony is suppose to be held where we did our exam yesterday, but that area is a mess right now. Kaya dito kami ngayon nakaupo sa unahan ng stage, patiently waiting na matapos na ang ceremony. Nakita kong umakyat si Andrea patungo ng stage at nag bow sa aming lahat, then received her medal and certificate. Looking at her makes me remember what happened yeaterday. I barely managed to pass the exam and thanks to my eyes, nakita ko ang huling flag. Walang nakakaalam ang totoong nagyari kahapon, that's why students keep telling rumours about it.

Base on the rumours, the exam was a torture. Pati daw mga teachers pinahirapan ang mga estudyante, and only Andrea managed to pass the exam pero dahil daw parang mali namang siya lang ang makapasa, kaming twenty nalang ang binigyan ng exception. Hays, who would even spread such baseless rumour? Sabi pa nila it was Andrea who destroyed the whole area that's why it's a mess right now, at ang mga sugat na natamo ng mga teachers au dahil daw sa kaniya. Honestly, I don't care if they disregard me here, pero parang mali naman yata na ikalat ang ganoong klaseng rumour.

Twenty kaming nakapasa since twenty naman talaga kaming nakakuha ng flag, and even if Andrea didn't manage to have the flag, na ring niya rin ang bell. Even though kaming dalawa lang ni Andrea ang natira para pigilan ang mga teachers, the others acquired the flags, they're just unconscious. Speaking of what happened yesterday, naalala ko na naman ang nangyari sa akin kahapon. Just right after the exam was finished, I went to the Headmistress office dahil pinatawag niya ako.

"Sit down." Sabi niya although that I haven't even knocked yet. Pumasok nalang ako at napaupo sa may couch.

"I passed." Sabi ko nalang. Pero nung mga oras na yun alam kung nasa bad mood siya, na para bang galit.

"You pass?" She asked. "You barely made it!"

"Bakit ba galit ka? All that matters is that I passed." Bored kong sabi.

"True. Pero muntik ka na dun ma disqualified. You don't know kung paano ko pinakiusapan ang mga teachers na in charge that they should reconsider."

"Eh? Kasalanan ko ba na yung suot ni Professor na jacket na may sign na flag sa likod niya ay hindi oala ang huling flag? You know they never said any rule about that."

"That's why I went all the trouble to let them reconsider it." She sighed. "Andrea, how was she?" She asked looking away.

"Ah yung anak mo..." I looked at the ceiling. "She's cool, but reckless. She'll do anything just to obtain her goal even if it means being straightforward." I saw a glimpse of her smiling.

"That's so like her, just like her father."

"You should congratulate her, you know." Sabi ko at tumayo na.

"No need." Then she beckoned me to get out.

Yun ang nangyari. Honestly, may feeling ako na family problem sila. Ewan ko kung anong problema nila, but why won't they just talk to each other if it bothers them? She won't even congratulate her own daughter on winning. But Headmistress smiled, even just for a while, alam kung masaya siya naging top student ang anak niya. Hays, must be nice having sich good mother.

I came back to my senses nang bumalik na sa upuan niya si Andrea. Hindi ko alam kung anong sinabi niya sa speech niya, but it seems she really prepared for it. Nagpalakpakan na ang mga estudyante at nagsimula na namang magsalita sa unahan ang Headmistress, saying her congratulations to all of us that passed. Sa stadium na to, siguro more than a hundred kami, and in that more than a  hundred, I feel very tired and exhausted.
