"Cam-Cam... Baby—"
"Don't call me that. You're still in a relationship with an idiot," I said as I tried to usher Cooper out of the bathroom. "I'm trying to get out of it," he said sternly.
"You're not trying hard enough."
"You don't understand, Cameron. She's crazy. She's smarter than m—"
"Don't you ever say that to anyone ever. She is not smarter than you. She's happier and more mentally stable than you, and that's it. She knows that you're still hurting over the death of your mother and she's milking that to extend your relationship. I don't understand why you keep making me repeat myself. You're not happy with her. She guilt trips you. Etcetera, etcetera. Cooper, I thought you liked me," I whined, attempting to guilt trip Cooper myself.
"I do! I like you a lot! I just—"
"You just don't like me enough? You just would rather spend more time with Erin than me?"
"What?! No! Why would you think that?!"
"You hardly even come over to my place anymore, you don't call me as much or text me, you're always talking to Erin or her friends, and you barely talk to me and Giorgi in class anymore because you're always texting her," I mewled. "I thought you cared about me, Cooper."
"Baby, I do. You know that," my best friend said sincerely. I pouted and shook my head. "You always seem so angry at me. I thought you hated me, Coop," I huffed, weakening my voice and breaking it. Cooper instantly lifted one of his hands off my waist and cupped my cheek, softly explaining: "No, Cammy, baby, I care about you so much! I just hate Graham. I hate how he has you and I hate that he's kissing you and I'm just...I'm nervous that he's gonna ask you out."
"But I've never been in a relationship, Cooper. I want to be asked out," I complained. "Then wait for me, Cam," Cooper chuckled sadly. "What if he asks me out tonight? Then what," I questioned. "Just..." my best friend trailed off, looking into my eyes with a stern, yearning gaze. "Just what, Coop? Say no? Ruin my chance at finding happiness?"
"You wouldn't be happy with me," my best friend asked. "I can't be happy with you. You're dating Erin," I scoffed into a bitter laugh. "Cameron—"
"Coop, I heard you and Giorgi when you stepped out of class. You said I'm yours and you're mine. We're best friends," I mentioned. "I just don't want anyone to separate us. You were my first real friend, Cooper. Please don't let Erin take you away from me..."
"I won't, Cameron. I swear I'll—"
"You'll break up with her?"
Cooper hesitated for a bit, staring into my eyes with a soft gaze; I frowned and immediately received a panicked stutter and head nod from my best friend. "I'll break up with her," he said quickly.
"When?"
"Soon, Cameron. I don't know, baby—"
"Graham's gonna ask me out soon," I said insincerely. I didn't know if what I was saying was true or not! I just wanted Cooper to hurry up and break up with that manipulative idiot of a girl called Erin. "Just... Can you stall him? Just, like, be annoying, maybe," he suggested.
