The loud thud of the rain falling heavily outside woke Michael with a start and he jumped into a sitting position on the couch. His chest was slightly sweaty and he immediately felt the pain in his limbs from falling asleep on the couch.
His blue tired eyes darted to the window where he could see the dark morning sky engulf New York and the rain drops fell angrily on the streets. It must of been around 6 am. Michael didn't even catch himself falling asleep but somewhere between checking up on Sara and flipping through the boring TV programmes he had drifted off, too tired to even open his eyes.
But his sleep was not peaceful. In his nightmares there was Sara again. Bagwell had his hands on her, a knife to her throat. They were in a burning room, the infirmary. Sara's tears were streaking down her beautiful face just as madly as the raindrops were falling outside now.
But she was silent. Her hazel eyes were empty and judgemental, as if she felt nothing for him. And Michael just stayed there, watching as Bagwell slowly slit her throat. He tried to move, but it was as if he was glued to the damned floor. The blood was dripping on Sara but she wasn't falling down, she wasn't lying on the ground, bleeding to death. She just stared at her husband.
And just as she was about to say something to him, the engineer woke up in cold sweat, more scared than ever, running quickly to the bedroom to check if his wife was safe and sound. And when he saw her sleeping curled with Blue, his heart calmed its heartbeat but he never dared to go lay with her, because he knew that way he'd gaze at her all night and his mind would absolutely drive him crazy with questions.
So after tossing and turning for another two hours he had fallen asleep, but now as he walked to the bathroom to take a shower, Michael felt like a dead man walking. And the hot water that was caressing his skin didn't help relieve his stress any. His mind was full of questions and his nightmare wouldn't leave him alone, the disappointed empty look in Sara's usually lively copper eyes was haunting
But of course his morning had to become even worse because when the engineer went in the bedroom to take a suit out of the closet, he found the bed completely empty. Michael felt his heart practically jump out of his chest in worry and he started running around the whole flat, yelling Sara's name as he frantically searched for her presence
She of course was nowhere to be found. And without wasting any time, Michael quickly got dressed, ready to go look out for her but his car keys, just like Sara, had vanished. But he couldn't care less and walked out in the heavy rain, his blue ocean eyes in a desperate search of his wife
He roamed the streets endlessly, going to her favourite coffee shop, he called in her work place. She wasn't there either, nor did she answer her cellphone.Every woman looked like her, yet he saw a stranger in their faces every time. And even in the heavy rain, there were dozens of cars on the roads already but his black Audi was no where in sight.
After two hours of looking for her like crazy, walking the crowded streets while the rain penetrated every part of his body, Michael decided to head home, his clothes soaking wet but he couldn't care less.
It felt like his heart was practically being ripped out of his chest with worry and Michael felt like he could have a panic attack any second if he didn't find Sara soon. He felt like crying. His mind was all over the place, his hands were shaking frantically and his breathing was ragged.
His vision was blurred and Michael was in disbelief of what was happening.By the time the engineer went home it was around 9 in the morning and whatever hopes Michael had had that Sara would be home, died the moment he stepped into the again empty flat. Even Blue was gone. Where the fuck were they?
The more he looked through the empty space, the more Michael became anxious and angry with himself for not looking out for his wife. Now she was God knows where and he was sitting in that damn flat, circling the rooms helplessly. He couldn't even give a flying fuck that he was wet to the bone, all he wanted was to see that Sara and Blue were alright.
And then, as if magically like, the front door opened and Michael's blue eyes striked to where Sara and Blue were just entering. He quickly scanned his wife to see if she was alright while fastly walking to her and engulfed her slightly moist body to his hard.
"where have you been, I was so goddamn worried for you. Jesus Sara"
The words were flowing out of Michael's mouth and he stepped back to meet her dull lifeless eyes. She looked so sad and broken and Michael had so many questions, but first Sara had to get well emotionally because now she looked more dead than death itself and that worried him beyond belief.
"please, say something. Please..."
the engineer pleaded, his eyes teary. His heart was breaking for her when he watched Sara like this. Michael couldn't understand what had went wrong. She was perfectly fine yesterday morning and now she wasn't mumbling even a word. She didn't even hug him back.It was as if she had fallen into a depressed state, a trance maybe, from which she couldn't escape
"I'm going to shower" Sara mumbled quietly, her voice hoarse and she didn't even look at him as she walked to the bathroom and shut the door behind her, leaving Michael more confused and worried than ever. What in the fucking hell was happening?!
He was desperate and worried and curious and wanted to know why she didn't even wanna look at him. Michael tried to steady all the awful thoughts in his head and instead took a deep breath to calm down as he walked to the bathroom door slowly.
Sliding down next to it, Michael's fingers came to caress his tense temples as he searched for the right words to say. But nothing felt right, nothing felt appropriate to ask. He was in the dark completely.
"Sara, please talk to me. I'm... I'm so worried about you. Please, I just want you to talk to me"
He pleaded again, his blue eyes hopeful as they darted to the white door behind which was his wife. The only sounds he could hear was the pouring rain outside and the splashing water in the shower.
A tear unconsciously rolled down his cheek as he listened for a reply from his love. But there was none.
"please..." he cried out softly, not even sure she heard him. But after such a long night Michael wasn't sure he had any power left in him.
"leave me alone" was all Sara said...
Any thoughts? 🥺
