“Professor Kartik Sen’s assistant?” Shehnaaz’s heart sank.

“Is something wrong?”

She had only just secured an interview with Professor Kartik Sen to take place the next morning. Had
something gonewrong, so soon?

“Do you have time? Let’s go get a drink,” said Rashmiin a gentle voice. She did not answer Shehnaaz’s question.

Her eyes were warm, and she looked at Shehnaaz withgenuine interest. She turned and opened the car door as aninvitation for Shehnaaz to get in.

Shehnaaz narrowed her eyes as she looked at Rashmi.

She remembered seeing this woman in the morning.

When Shehnaaz had called Kartik Sen, this woman hadcome out from the room beside Kartik Sen’s. She had
watched as she knocked on his door and entered.

Parth had told her that Kartik Sen had a teachingassistant.

Was he referring to this woman?
What exactly did she want from her?
Shehnaaz’s top priority right now was the interview ateight o’clock the next morning. The last thing she wanted
was to have her mood affected so close to the interview.

Shehnaaz politely refused her invitation by saying,“Assistant Desai, if you have something to say, please say itnow. I have an interview tomorrow, and I would like to goover my notes again this evening before I turn in for thenight.”

In actuality, a top student like Shehnaaz was already fullyprepared for any interview. Only a lesser student wouldhave to go over their notes again when the interview was
taking place early the next morning.

Rashmi looked at her in surprise, then smiled and said,“But what I’m about to tell you has to do with your interview
tomorrow.”

“Really? So Professor Sen sent you?” Shehnaaz got out herphone and looked up the number for Kartik Sen. “I’ll checkwith him, if you don’t mind.”

Rashmi hastily stopped her, a wry
smile on her face.

“My dear girl, why are you so
suspicious of me? I’m here togive you advice. Did you think I’m here to harm you?”

Shehnaaz’s finger slid surreptitiously over her phone. Shesmiled a gentle, angelic smile. “Oh no, please don’t say
that, Assistant Desai. We barely know one another. Whywould you want to harm me, when I’m practically a strangerto you? That’s such a crazy thought, and I would never think
that.”

“Yet, you refuse to have a drink with me, and was quick tocheck with Professor Sen. You don’t trust me, anyone can seethat.” Rashmi sighed and shook her head as she looked
at Shehnaaz. “It’s no use. No matter how hard you try, it’llall be for nothing, in the end.”

The last thing Shehnaaz needed right now was forsomeone to extinguish her tiny flicker of hope.

Her face clouded over. “I’m not one to give up. If I come upagainst a wall, I’ll keep beating away at it, until one of usgives. So even if it all amounts to nothing, I don’t want tohear it from you. Not now. Feel free to gloat only after I’veshattered my bones against the wall.”

“But I had a good feeling about you from the very moment Iset my eyes on you. I like your character and your spirit, and I don’t want you to get hurt.” Rashmi Desai’s voice wasfull of sympathy. “Sana—may I call you Sana?”

Shehnaaz shrugged. “If you wish.”

“Sana, you are talented. Exceptionally so. I just knowyou’ll become the best female lawyer the world has everseen, one day. Your future is bright. You will accomplishmany great things.”
