August

"Well if it isn't my son, or at least I think he is." My mother laughed as I answered her call.

"I still am, just been busy. Wassup momma? You good?"

"By the grace of God. How are you? How have you been managing!"

"Shit ain't easy being away from my son and my girl but I'm managing. I'm actually heading out there."

"When?"

"Now." I chuckled. "I'm standing outside the plane at this moment."

"Oh shit." She laughed. "Let me not keep you. I'm sure Chrys is very excited." She smiled.

"She would be if she knew." I smirked. "I chose to surprise her."

"Well then." She laughed. "Have fun. Don't argue."

"Wow. This coming from a woman who hated Chrysta not to long ago." I boarded the plane.

"I never hated her."

"Yeah okay." I shook my head as I sat. "For someone who didn't hate someone, you sure had a special was of showing it."

"I was simply protecting you."

"Here we go again."

"What? I'm your mother Aug and now that you have a son of your own, you'll understand. She just randomly appeared in your life and I had to be certain she wasn't trying to use you."

"Okay momma."

"You're so touchy when it comes to Chrysta. I've never seen you defend any other girl you've been with or entertained like this."

"Because Chrys is different. She showed me that early and I knew up front that she wasn't trying to use me."

"And I'm happy to know that. I agree with you as well, on her being different. She really be about her own business."

"She really do." I chuckled. "Anyway, let me call you back. The plane bout to take off."

"Okay. Safe flight. I love you."

"Thanks momma. I love you too."

"Let them know." I instructed.

Sitting back and exhaling, I thought back on that conversation with my mom and the fact that she expected me to believe she didn't hate Chrysta in the beginning. When I first introduced them, her facial expression said it all. It was so bad that Chrysta even picked up on it.

"You seem deep in thought."

Giving Terrence my attention, I sighed and sat up.

"Yeah man. Was thinking back on how things was in the beginning, when I first met Chrys."

"When she forgot her phone in the car." He chuckled.

"Yeah." I smiled. "To this day, I still tell her, us meeting was faith."

"You really think so?"

"Of course. Of all the churches to be in, especially it being her first time in Atlanta, to getting stuck because of the rain, shit was meant to happen. Her forgetting her phone was just the icing on the cake."

"You ever told her that?"

"Yeah. All the time back when we talked everyday. Her response is always 'if you say so'."

"She don't believe yo ass." He laughed.

"She does, she just don't want to think of it like that."
