Bryan's POV
Family reunions have been a bit different since everything happened.
Anubis constantly thought we weren't being cautious enough with how much of a danger that was being presented.
While Inpu normally didn't agree with what his father had to say, the two of them were actually getting along for once.
Izanami and I were working on making food while we Anubis and Inpu were talking at the island in the kitchen.
They weren't talking about anything serious, they were trying to avoid mafia talk for once which was refreshing.
The triplets and Artemis were just playing in the other room while Crystal went to run a few errands for her band before Izanami and Anubis came home, and since Anubis knew Inpu was training her, I was kind of hesitant about what would happen once she's back.
She came back around the time dinner was ready, and of course, she ended up coming in from the side door that lead into the kitchen.
"Hey! If it isn't the next in line, how have you been helping the current case?" [Anubis]
"I haven't been, my father kicked me from the team" [Crystal]
"What? Inpu, explain" [Anubis]
"She's 17, I'm not going to put her on a case that could get her killed" [Inpu]
"If it was me trying to deal with this case you'd be working on this case every bit of free time you got" [Anubis]
"I also got more training than her" [Inpu]
"She should be getting that training" [Anubis}
"He was six when you started to train him, I think he's doing pretty good with her training all things considered" [Izanami]
"I still would've liked if we waited till she was 18 to start, but of course the two of you had to find me before Inpu which caused him to realize and want to start training her" [Bryan]
"I would've preferred if I had a choice other than dad just saying hey you're going to work with me while papa was out of town and couldn't say no" [Crystal]
"Inpu!" [Bryan]
"What did you expect from me!" [Inpu]
"To be honest, exactly that, on another note that is why you aren't allowed to be alone with Artemis at the office" [Bryan]
"Wow! That came out of no where!" [Crystal]
"Crystal, go get your siblings, dinner is going to be ready soon" [Izanami]
"Understood" [Crystal]
"Does this mean we get to talk about the elephant in the room finally?" [Anubis]
"Which one?" [Inpu]
"The fact she is clearly hiding something, you said she practices in an abandoned studio at the other side of town yet she reeks of the woods" [Anubis]
"I have a feeling she goes somewhere else after practice, this isn't the first time she's come home and smelled like the woods" [Bryan]
"That's not a normal walk through the woods smell, the power means she'd likely be there four three hours at least" [Izanami]
"Then what do you suspect, I'm not taking things away from her, she's already going through enough" [Bryan]
"Just talk to the girl, she's probably pissed at Inpu and uses long walks as a way to get the stress off of her" [Izanami]
"That is a dumb reason to be mad" [Anubis]
"You also never let your kids be kids, and now that you have grandkids who are allowed to be kids anything they do just seems dumb to you" [Izanami]
"Just with that in mind confuses me as to how you started a mafia" [Bryan]
"My father was abusive so I went into crime, isn't that how most start?" [Anubis]
"No, but it makes sense, that does also mean I've broken tradition" [Inpu]
"How so?" [Izanami]
"Dads who abuse their children, I've never been abusive to my kids, granted they weren't in my life for 10 years, but still" [Inpu]
"We should probably finish this discussion later, dinner is ready and the kids are going to get hangry soon" [Bryan]
We all agreed that before calling the kids down so we could eat.
Dinner was mostly uneventful but it was clear tension was high, but there was no reason for it.
Once dinner finished, Inpu and Izanami decided to go pickup something for dessert so it was left to Crystal, Anubis, and I to clean up since the rest of the kids weren't on the clean up rotation till next week.
Before we started, I made it known I didn't want to talk about anything mafia related, but I knew Anubis wouldn't care about what I wanted right now since he always wanted to talk about the job with my kids when I wasn't around.
"So, do anything interesting recently?" [Anubis]
"If by interesting you mean illegal, no, but I found somewhere in the woods that would be great for hiding a body" [Crystal]
"And I'm shutting this down, why do you know how to hide a body?" [Bryan]
"You remember the night Jakey held a gun to dad's head?" [Crystal]
"How could I forget" [Bryan]
"They left the body there, so dad took me to hide it so the cops wouldn't get suspicious, I learned a lot of stuff I really didn't want to know" [Crystal]
"At least he's teaching you, better now than never" [Anubis]
"You both are beyond me" [Bryan]
"Ain't my fault, ain't my problem" [Crystal]
"She's just doing what she's been taught to do, you can yell at Inpu for it another time" [Anubis]
"My husband is only half the problem" [Bryan]
"Yeah, grandpa, you're a bad influence too!" [Crystal]
"Says the one who runs around in the woods" [Anubis]
"Do I really smell that bad just from a walk?" [Crystal]
"Its not a bad smell, the woods smell fairly nice, its just a powerful smell you keep coming back with when you have band practice" [Bryan]
"We keep finishing early, plus the walks are nice, Atlas can back me up there" [Crystal]
"You sure there is nothing else bothering you?" [Bryan]
"I'd be lying if I said no, but we already know what my issue is" [Crystal]
"Go behind Inpu's back then, I've got stuff you can use" [Anubis]
"Not happening" [Bryan]
"Come on, let the girl do some investigating, its not like she'll be rushing in guns blazing" [Anubis]
"No, just gathering info alone could be harmful to her, I'm not letting that happen" [Bryan]
"I'm fine, grandpa, its really nothing, I can handle the idea of not being allowed to do something" [Crystal]
The tension in the room was slowly growing and I had no idea on what I should say or do.
Eventually, Inpu and Izanami came back and called the kids down for dessert which was my exit.
We finished up the family gathering and once they were gone, I told Inpu everything that happened.
He was in shock because of what his father was suggesting, but we both knew Crystal wouldn't act on anything like that, so we didn't worry and just decided to go on with the night as we normally would after a family visit.
