Chapter 97 | Finally Meeting

Bryan's POV

While normally I'd wait to eat before hearing what mafia news Inpu had for the morning, but this morning he seemed super excited to tell me.

He was kind of just rambling, which normally I'd find adorable, but with no coffee in my system, it was more irritating.

I eventually had enough, so I decided to stop him and get him to explain what he actually needed to tell me.

"So you know how it was taking a strangely long time to get Jakey's roommate or partner or whatever he calls him self to respond?"

"Yeah, I haven't not heard about it for the past two weeks"

"He called me back this morning, wants to meet the two of us for lunch later today, apparently he has some news that makes this entire thing so much weirder"

"Alright, so he meets with you, I don't see how that involves me other than my connection to this entire thing"

"He wants to meet you in person, said he wanted it to just be you and him, but I'm not comfortable with that, so I convinced him to let me go with"

"You're the mafia boss, why meet with me and not you?"

"Beats me, either way I should bring you, he won't trust me otherwise, so I saw we go out, pose it as a simple lunch meeting so we don't get cops on our tails, then we go from there and find out"

I let out a heavy sigh, not really knowing what to expect.

"Was a dress code discussed?"

"Casual clothes, nothing we'd wear to mafia meetings"

"Alright, give me time to shower and get changed into something presentable, I'll be back in a bit"

"You know I wouldn't mind something not presentable!"

I heard the kids groan from the other room before I was able to get to mine and Inpu's room and I just laughed.

After a while, Inpu and I left to the meeting and once we got to the cafe we were meeting at, something inside me made everything just feel so strange.

We sat at the table and waited for our stuff but not long after we got our stuff, someone sat at the table next to us, so Inpu tapped the table a few times, and once the guy responded, he moved to our table.

"Sorry about the secrecy, we both know mafia stuff doesn't stop, the names Brandeen" [Brandeen]

"Don't worry about it, I'm used to it, you already know me, but this is my husband, Bryan" [Inpu]

"Pleasure to meet you, meeting you in person really shows me what Jakey sees in you, you really are too good for him" [Brandeen]

"Well, I'm married so I don't know why he's even bothering, also I'm also too good for Inpu, and yet here we are" [Bryan]

"Yeah, I don't know why he's bothering either, considering we've been married for the past 18 years, which is why I wanted to meet you in person" [Brandeen

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry, had I known he was married sooner I would've pushed him away harder and used it against him" [Bryan]

"As much as I want to put blame on you, I can't, I've found proof that he wanted to try and start a second life" [Brandeen]

"So he tried to go after my husband again and once the kids finally hit their breaking point, told him, then he tried to start his other life by force" [Inpu]

"Wait, this was the second time?" [Brandeen]

"Yeah, the two of us were separated for a few reasons, the two of us dated for a while, but he was abusive to my kids cause they asked me about Inpu, I wasn't going to let that stand" [Bryan]

"It was because they asked about me?" [Inpu]

"Story for another time, love" [Bryan]

"You said he was held at your office, has he said anything you guys think I should know?" [Brandeen]

"Well, I have minimal involvement, I'm not fully in the mafia, but I did ask him some questions, he acted like he was living alone, as if he were still single" [Bryan]

"Its almost like he was convincing himself he needed someone else in his life" [ Inpu]

"The two of us had a fight a few months back, both of us said some hurtful things, but I never thought he'd use it as an excuse to get himself a second family" [Brandeen]

"Or force the other part, we've fought back for six months, I had to be at his side for months to make sure your husband wouldn't try anything on mine" [Inpu]

"Since you bring this up, may I ask what he did? Or at least the worst of it" [Brandeen]

"He found out when we had date night, waited so no one was in the house before sneaking onto our property and trying to talk to me at midnight, its like he learned our patterns" [Bryan]

"Well, I'll let you know now that I'll give him a piece of my mind when I finally get to see him, I'll make sure nothing like this happens again" [Brandeen]

"As much as I know I said no threats tonight, you better make sure this doesn't happen again, my 17 year old had to help plan out a mafia attack, I know there are worse things, but my eldest and soon to be second in command shouldn't need to do that yet" [Inpu]

"And I apologize for that, I don't know what got into him, my hope is that after this we can still remain neutral" [Brandeen]

"Remaining neutral is one of the things we hope for too, the last thing we need is a long running mafia war, been there, done that" [Bryan]

"Must have been scary, how did you know it started?" [Brandeen]

"The same night our oldest was born, someone broke in, guy froze cause he thought he was in the wrong place, only for three guards to tackle him" [Bryan]

"I remember hearing about that one, I was still getting used to my leadership position, became leader of my mafia literally the week before that started" [Brandeen]

"I thought you were working with your mafia longer?" [Inpu]

"I have been, but I run from the shadows, so while I deal with some work, I wasn't able to be fully a leader until I completed a larger number of tasks" [Brandeen]

Slowly, the conversation switched to just the two of them talking about what they do in the mafia, and it just caused me to start laughing.

Eventually, the two of them agreed to meet at Inpu's office in a few days so Jakey could go with his husband who we just found out he had.

The two of us just felt relieved though, we finally had time we could just spend as a family without any worries, what more was there to ask for.
