The next day, 4:00 A.M.
Sherlock was pacing his flat. John was sitting in the chair with a cup if tea in hand. I was sitting on the floor staring blankly at the case file.
"Still nothing on the time pattern?" John asked.
"For the love of God, John. I don't think there is a time pattern." I said, my voice clearly groggy from exhaustion.
"We've been working on this for thirteen hours, shouldn't we take a break?" John said.
"Correction, Sherlock and I have been working on it for thirteen hours, you have been sitting there most of the time" I said.
"Maybe it would be easier to solve the bloody case if you could think clearly" John said.
"She can think perfectly clearly right now, right?" Sherlock said, turning to face me.
"Yes, Sherlock, perfectly clearly. Just a bit tired." I said.
"Right. But what I don't understand, is why would this person being killing them at random? Even random isn't random. There's always a pattern, there has to be a pattern" Sherlock said as he continued to pace the flat.
"Maybe it is just random" John said.
I stood up. I picked up the stuff and put it all back in the file. I picked up the file and set it on the table. "Sherlock is right. It's never random. They will make it seem random, sure, but that's to throw anyone and everyone off the trail of actually being able to solve it" I said.
"Alright, well, how are we even supposed to catch this person?" John asked.
"We use me as bait" I said.
"No. Absolutely not. That's totally out of the question. Not an option y/n" Sherlock said.
"Sherlock, it could be the only-" I said, but was interrupted.
"I said it's not an option. I won't hear of it" Sherlock said.
"It could be our only opportunity to actually catch whoever is behind this" I said.
"I would rather they go free than risk losing you." Sherlock said, a hint of concern in his voice.
"Sherlock, you know that I can handle myself. Plus, you and John will be keeping careful eye. I will keep my phone on a call, that way you are able to trace every move, but you must be absolutely silent or we will get caught" I said.
"It's not an option," Sherlock said "it's not happening, so just drop it."
"I know you're worried about me Sherlock, but we have to catch this person before they end up killing someone else." I said.
"What if the next person they end up killing is you? What then?" Sherlock said, the worry in his voice growing, as a concerned expression covered his face.
"I'll be fine Sherlock." I said. I was trying to reassure him of this fact, of course. But, part of me was also trying to convince myself that I would be.
I knew how dangerous my plan was, and I knew there was precisely a 12.31% chance that I could be the next one killed. A bit to high of a percentage for my liking but I knew that if we wanted to catch this person, it would have to be a risk we are all willing to take.
"You're not even sure of that yourself" Sherlock said.
"Perhaps. But it's the only chance we've got" I said.
Sherlock sighed. He realized that I was not going to give up on this. "You aren't giving up on this, are you?" He asked me.
"No. No I am most certainly not." I said crossing my arms.
Sherlock shook his head. "You have to promise to be careful." He said.
"Don't worry. I always am." I said.
"If something even feels off, you get out." Sherlock said.
"Okay." I said.
The next day
Sherlock paced his flat. "That was very dangerous and stupid" He said.
"We caught the guy who was taking people. That's what's important" I said.
"You almost got shot. If you got shot, you could've died. You can't be that reckless with your life" Sherlock said.
"I knew you guys wouldn't let anything happen." I said in a defensive tone.
"And if we hadn't been quick enough, you'd be dead." Sherlock said.
"But I'm not" I said.
"That's not the point. I can't lose you. I love you" Sherlock said.
"You what?" I asked. He had never really said that before, in the two years we've been together, neither of us really had.
"You heard me." Sherlock said.
"I love you too Sherlock." I said.
"Then for the love of God please be more careful" He said.
"Okay, I'll try" I said.
