A/n: trigger warning, mentions of abuse

I was sitting outside the school. Classes had ended about ten minutes ago and I was waiting for Steve.

We were assigned to work on a class project together. We had agreed to do it at my house, but since my car wasn't working, he was going to drive the both of us over there.

Steve walked over to me. "Sorry it took a bit, teacher had a couple things she wanted to talk about." He said.

I stood up. "It's fine." I said.

Steve looked down at my wrist, vaguely noticing something. "Is that a bruise?" He asked.

I pulled the sleeve of my sweater down. "No." I said before we walked to over to his car.

Steve unlocked the car then got in.

I got in the car.

"Y/n. That looks like a bruise." Steve said before buckling up.

"Okay. Maybe it is one." I said before buckling my seatbelt.

"Past six months, you always have some injury or another. What's going on?" Steve asked before starting up the car.

"Nothing, Steve. It's nothing. Just, drive." I said, leaning my head against the window.

"If something is wrong, you can tell me." Steve said before driving off.

"No, I can't." I said.

"So, something is wrong." Steve said.

"Maybe. I can't talk about it, Steve. I'm sorry." I said.

"Y/n, please. Just tell me what's going on." Steve said, clearly sounding worried.

"I can't. I can't tell anyone." I said.

"Is it your parents?" Steve asked.

"No, no. Goodness, no. It's not them." I said.

"Then who's doing this?" Steve asked, the concern in his voice beginning to increase.

"Don't, worry about it." I said.

"I can't not worry about you." Steve said.

"Just, don't ask questions." I said.

"Yeah, I'm gonna ask questions. This isn't a joke. This is a serious thing." Steve said.

"I know it's serious. He'd be pissed if I said anything." I said.

"He?" Steve asked.

"Yeah." I said.

"It was Connor, your boyfriend, wasn't it?" Steve asked.

I stayed quiet. He was right, but I didn't want him to know that he was right.

"Y/n, tell me the truth." I said.

"It." I started, but went quiet.

"Finish what you were going to say. You can be honest with me." Steve said.

I shook my head, then pulled my sleeves over my hands.

"Come on." Steve said.

I stared out the window and remained silent.

Steve parked the car. He unbuckled and got out.

I unbuckled my seatbelt.

Steve walked over and opened my car door. I smiled slightly then got out of the car, Steve closing the door behind me.

"Where's your parent's car?" Steve asked.

"They're out of town for a couple weeks." I said before walking to the door.

Steve followed me to the door. "Any particular reason?" He asked.

"Other than them just wanting to take a vacation, no. They quote on quote, needed a break from my bullshit." I said.

"What?" Steve asked.

"Don't, ask. I've been an issue lately." I said before pulling out my keys.

"They didn't need to be rude about it." Steve said.

"Honestly, it's whatever. I don't give a fuck anymore." I said.

"Since when do you not give a fuck?" Steve asked.

"Since, I don't know. At some point along the line, I just stopped caring." I said before I unlocked the door. I opened it then walked in.

Steve walked in and closed the door behind him. "Where should we do the project?" He asked.

"Living room is fine I guess." I said.

Steve nodded then walked over to the couch. He then sat down.

I walked over to the couch and sat down beside him.

"Y/n. Be honest. Was this your boyfriend?" Steve asked.

"Yes." I said faintly.

Steve's face fell. "You deserve better." He said.

"No one else wants me, and quite frankly, I don't want to be alone." I said.

"You're with him, because you're scared to be alone, and you think no one else wants you?" Steve asked.

"I know no one else does." I said.

"Don't be so sure." Steve said.

The phone rang. "Excuse me." I said before getting up. I walked over to the phone and answered it.

"Where are you?" Connor asked.

"Home." I said in an obvious tone.

"Why are you with Steve Harrington?" Connor asked.

"How the- are you here?" I asked.

"No. But I saw you leave with him." Connor said.

"We were partnered for a history project." I said.

Steve got up and walked over to me. "Everything okay?" He mouthed.

I shook my head.

"No, okay? Tell them to partner you with Nancy or something." Connor said.

"What, worried I'll leave your ass?" I asked.

"No. Because you're scared." Connor said.

"Here's to facing your fears then." I said.

"What the hell are you saying?" Connor asked.

I looked at Steve for a few seconds. "I'm saying, Connor. That I'm dumping your sorry, sick, abusive ass. Don't call, don't text, don't talk to me, don't even look at me. Bye bye." I said before hanging up.

"You broke up with him?" Steve asked.

"You heard me. I dumped his ass." I said, tears in my eyes.

"Are you okay?" Steve asked.

"I'm free." I said.

"Me too. Wanna go out on Friday?" Steve said.

"Smooth, Harrington. Really, but to soon." I said.

"Right." Steve said.

"It's not that I'm not interested, it's just, to soon." I said.

"Well, when you're ready, I'll be waiting." Steve said.
