A.N. - Bake pies, save lives.

Platonic:

Pie functions as an interim peace offering, but too many give him a sweet tooth. Candlejack expresses gratitude by tormenting those who impede the happiness of his friend. Whether it is a rude stranger on the street or a dispute with a family member, this supernatural entity stalks the culprit and haunts their home until they are consumed by paranoia and either institutionalized or say his name. He chooses not to admit guilt or request payment, preferring to appreciate his work from the shadows.

Rambling about his livelihood inspires a certain gaiety in the spirit. Indifferent to its wicked nature, Candlejack finds it thrilling to reiterate tales of foolish victims and entertain his friend with past scares. Any discomfort or fear is met with invitations to accompany him on outings and experience his trade firsthand. The boogeyman's lackadaisical attitude towards kidnapping extends to proposing the option of assisting him, but he enjoys their commentary, optimistic or hostile, regardless.

While he praises his job, the solitary nature of it enables profound feelings of boredom. This lack of stimulation propels him to transport victims through the path of his friend. He laughs at the alleged coincidence, but his refusal to bring the conversation to a natural end asserts his reluctance to depart. Candlejack flings every reverse psychology trick he can to fool them into saying his name before either leaving in disappointment or elation.

Romantic:

Many who recognize his existence have neither the power nor the will to help, and the few altruistic souls who do are tricked into saying his name and abducted. The limited information his partner can share without sabotaging others and drawing accusations of insanity exposes them to a host of nocturnal visits. Hoping to outsmart the boogeyman at hide-and-seek is pure lunacy, and fleeing to the neighbours tempts Candlejack's menace inside another abode.

Candlejack is most comfortable when observing his partner from a distance, witnessing their daily life as an unseen spectator. He has little interest in direct interaction but enjoys leaving hints of his presence. Perhaps the faint smell of melted wax lingers on their furniture, or personal belongings vanish in the night. In making their escape appear impossible, he plays with their sense of reality and diminishes their faith in memories.

The relationship is a game of patience to him. Household objects are rearranged with no indication of forced entry, and Candlejack seems to catch an unusual amount of loose-lipped naysayers near his partner. Individuals who, on any other day, would dismiss urban legends as malarkey are possessed by the need to gossip about the boogeyman. This puzzling obsession surrounds his partner with whispers of his name until they recite it.
