I was right. He didn't take me failing my mission well.
Quinn had locked me away in one of the inner chambers of the castle we called home.
So far, I had been in here for about two days.
That wasn't that bad if you ask me, At least I was away from Quinn.
The bad part was that Quinn had ordered that I was to be given no food and minimal water until he decides to forgive me.
Bunch of bullshit if you ask me. . .
I had decided to curl up in a corner and wait out his angry temper tantrum.
Moving too much made my body hurt thanks to the hunger clawing at me.
Sighing, I slowly rolled over onto my back, Wincing at the burning pain in my gut.
There was a tiny crack in the ceiling, Allowing me to just barely see the starry night above.
The great wings of the starry mother owl in the sky was just barely visible through the crack.
Holding my arm up, I ignored the heavy feeling I felt as I spread my wings out on either side of myself.
Mother owl was what my parents called the constellation, Not many of the normals knew much about the stars above or the stories olden day people made up for them.
Closing my eyes, I thought back over the story of the mother owl, Using it to try and distract me from the situation I was in.
When the universe was just pitch black emptiness, There was an egg, An egg in the middle of the darkness.
It glowed brighter then the sun, Lighting up all of the universe around it, Banishing the darkness.
And like all eggs, It eventually hatched.
Out of the egg came a small hatchling, It's shell breaking apart and spreading the the edge of our universe, Sectioning our little pocket away from the rest of the emptiness.
It wandered the limits of it's new universe, Blindly stumbling about.
Eventually, It came upon another creature in the vast emptiness, In the spines of this creature hid the key to life.
By this point the hatchling's flight feathers were finally coming in.
It had tried to follow the serpent creature, Only to get chased off by it in the end.
Saddened, The hatchling returned to the remains of it's egg shell, By now it was almost fully grown.
As it laid in it's egg, It started to cry, It's tears filling up the remains of it's shell.
When it opened it's eyes, It was shocked to find ten little orbs floating in it's tears.
It was overjoyed, And it set to work helping the orbs grow and change.
The largest one it gifted with the burning bright power and heat inside it, Turning it into a giant ball of flame and heat.
It carefully placed the burning orb in the center of the largest portion of it's broken shell, The orb floating innocently in it's tears as it gathered the smallest orbs and placed them closest to the burning one.
Eventually, It had all the orbs in a pattern it liked, The little circles floating around the middle one.
And it was happy for many cycles of the orbs around the flaming one.
Eventually though, It became lonely.
It's loneliness grew until finally, It picked one of the larger orbs to use to end it's loneliness.
Carefully it filled it with plants and differing environments, All of them built for life.
Yet, Many more cycles passed and nothing appeared, Sure the plants flourished, Their beautiful colors and patterns evolving with every ten cycles.
Just when it was about to give up hope, An idea came to it.
Life started from creatures like it, If the serpent could make life, So could it.
The loud sound of someone knocking on the door drew me from my thoughts.
Blinking slowly, I waited as my eyes refocused, Not even having realized I had closed them.
The night sky was hidden behind a think dark storm cloud.
Un-surprisingly, The person knocking didn't bother waiting for me to say they could come in.
I glared coldly up at the soldier who entered abruptly, A scroll held in his hands as he sneered down at me, Looking revolted.
About a second later, In walked Quinn.
I slowly sat up as he eyed me up and down, His eyes narrowing, A sneer on his face, Just like the soldier.
''It wouldn't hurt you to have put in at least some effort to look presentable'' His growled out as he slowly stalked closer to me.
Biting back the sarcastic words that were poised on my tongue, I raised my wings slightly instead, My feathers bristling as Quinn just scoffed.
''You're lucky I haven't found another mate. When I eventually do. You'll face the results of all your failures.'' He threatened, His armored hand coming down to grip my face, The metal claw like nails on it digging into my skin and drawing blood.
Translation, As soon as he finds another mate he can control, He'll kill me. . .
''I however, Am feeling very generous tonight, So, You will have a chance to earn some food if you carry out a scouting mission on one of the larger tribes some travelers told us about'' Quinn explained, His grip loosening as his other armored hand lightly and gently wiped my blood from my skin.
'Generous'. Bunch of bullshit. He's hoping I'll get hurt. . .
''It's customary to thank someone when they are kind to you'' Quinn said, His voice taking on a false kindness as he dug his metal nails back into my face.
''Thank you sir'' I muttered, Dipping my head as best I could, Trying to look like the picture of a loyal servant.
''Hmph, You could do better'' He said dismissively as he stood up, Releasing my face as the soldier tossed the scroll to the ground next to me.
I picked it up cautiously as the two men left my holding cell.
It was directions to this rival tribe.
. . .At least it's only a scouting mission. . .Hopefully no blood will be shed. . .

:) Quinn isn't gonna die. . .Soo. . .
Anyways! Like always, Have a good day/night and find a better book! - fallen
