Or it shall find you

"... You better not open that door." Jayson snarled.

"I won't!" Alysha bit back.

"You better not!"

"I WON'T!"

"Ley-ley, I know you can hear me. I can hear you." Scratch, scratch, scratch. Claws on wood.

"What is that thing?" Luci shrieked. "It feels so... What is it?"

"I can smell you."

For the first time Alysha noticed the room they were in. It was the chamber where Lilith had been found with the child- not that Alysha knew that- but she recognised the elements enough to know that something had been going on here. In the centre of the room there was an alter- the adornments of which were all spilled violently into a messy heap on the floor. A dark stain, like long-dried blood, was splashed across the dark green floor tiles.
Across the room, she could see a series of dark cubbies made from near-black wood- likely where any more important items would be kept.

"I can see you." Alysha jumped from her skin at the voice by her ear. A strip had been torn from between the timbers of the door, and through it could be seen a single burning red eye.
Like a bullet shot from a gun, Alysha took off away from the door into the dark recesses of the room.

"Hey, wait, don't-!" Jayson yelled, suddenly left to handle the weight of the door by himself. Luci rushed over to help, bracing her own body against the door.

"What are you doing?" She screamed, as the beast at the door howled bloody murder.

"Stop!" And then, Alysha was back. In her hands, was an almost ghostly, rounded object, wrapped in loose white bandages.

At her appearance, the creature stopped. They could hear it, its heavy breathing, behind the few inches of door.

Alysha set the strange object down on the alter. "Leave, or I'll smash it. I will! You know I will." Her eyes were wild, her voice terrible and fierce. Jayson knew every word she spoke was entirely sincere- not a threat, but a promise. "I'll smash it to dust. And then you'll never have it."

The pause that followed was long- too long. But then, through the crack in the door they saw, as it turned and skulked away.

"What is that?" Jayson asked as he relaxed against the door, gesturing to the object Alysha had found. With a slight frenzied grin, Alysha picked it up and threw it towards him, the bandages coming loose and trailing out as she did. "Catch. Jayson, meet my favourite brother."

Jayson nearly dropped the decaying corpse's head as its eyes snapped open to look at him.
