(I thought it would be nice to incorporate some of the little things I find joy in. Sometimes we get so overwhelmed by the bad stuff that's happening in the world, we forget to appreciate the little moments that make us smile. I hope this reminds you of them.)

"What makes you happy?"

"Feeling a bit chilly when you move early in the morning because it's cold but having no need to put on warm clothes because you feel the warmth of the sun touch your skin."

"Meleth nin, have you got everything we will need?"

"Yes, sweetheart. Stop fretting—that is the fifth time you've asked me."

A sheepish grin. "I apologize. I just want this day to go smoothly as possible."

A sigh and an amused shake of the head. "Everything will go as planned, my love. And even if something went wrong, we will find a way to still enjoy."

Legolas' smile turned into a loving one as he pressed a kiss to your temple. "You always know how to calm me down," he said, checking if your horses were ready. "Shall we?"

The both of you mounted your horses and set off to a special place somewhere in the forest where you usually spent time together. Today was a year after your wedding, and although the elves don't really commemorate such dates, Legolas thought it would be nice to spend a day with you. Because even though a year has already passed, he still could not believe that you are his and he is yours.

As the two of you rode on, you closed your eyes for a little while and lifted your chin up to face the sky. Your hair whipped behind you as the wind passed by and the cold morning air caressed your skin. With a giggle, you pulled up your sleeves to feel the breeze even more.

Legolas glanced at you every now and then, and when he heard you laugh a smile made its way to his lips. Your actions were quite childish to the eyes of others but they were actions that made him fall for you. You knew when to be serious but you also knew when to have fun. When you raised your hand up as if reaching for the clouds and when a peal of laughter left your lips, he joined in. Legolas pulled his sleeves up as best as he could.

And when the rays of the early morning sun broke through the leaves, the both of you reached out a hand and watched as shadow and light made patterns on your skin. The contrast of cold and warm was pleasant. The trees grew less dense and more sunlight touched the both of you, caressing your faces.

You held out your hand with your palm facing him and Legolas mirrored you. Your hands touched and intertwined, but it was short-lived for you still had to make your way in the forest carefully. But the fleeting touch was enough for the both of you.

"I love you," Legolas exclaimed over the loud thudding of hooves against the ground and the rush of the wind in your ears. He was beaming.

His words brought the widest of smiles you could muster and to Legolas you looked as bright and lovely as the sun. "And I love you too," you answered.

As you continued to make your way in the forest, you forever remembered the feel of the cold air and the morning sun and the touch of your lover and his smile. This moment brought you inexplicable joy and you etched it in your heart and mind.

This little moment did not happen often but whenever it did, it made you happy and it made you look forward for the next ones. Even with the dark and often sombre atmosphere of Mirkwood, you both found places that still showed the beauty of the forest and in those places you found happiness. And remembering those little moments spent with him, you were able to find a reason to smile. It made the days to come bearable.

It made you look forward to something.

It made life worth living.
