(Author's Notes: I was inspired to write for Sam because I read  guardianofrivendell's work from Tumblr for Sam titled THUNDERSTORM, I love it so much 😭  It's a different idea or story though.

This scenario is inspired by my parents. My dad loves to plant and so we have lots of vegetables outside ready if ever you need them for cooking. He planted garlic the way I described them in this one-shot thingy. And yes, he takes the garlic my mom bought in the supermarket.

And yes, I absolutely agree we need more Sam content and I really want to try and write more for the hobbits 💛💛

I've read the whole thing again and again to check, but if I miss something, and that something is me typing onion instead of garlic, please let me know. I still get them mixed up in English hnnngghhh

Hope you enjoy and I hope you also try and grow your own vegetables and I hope you succeed because I'm not succeeding in growing flowers.

"Samwise Gamgee!"

He winced, thankful he didn't jump at the sound of his name. Crouching on the ground with his hands covered in dirt, he closed his eyes, hoping that if he kept silent trouble will avoid him.

But oh no, you have had enough. You've told him a million times and he never listens! Wiping your hands clean with the linen apron tied around your waist, you stomped towards the front door that was wide open. You spotted your husband and frowned at him with hands placed on your hips.

Sam sighed and turned his head, sheepishly smiling as he met your gaze. That didn't soften your expression and you raised your eyebrows.

"(Y/N), dearest, what's wrong?" he asked, even though he knows what you're angry about.

"My garlic, Sam! My garlic!"

"I'm planting some right now and soon they'll be good and we can harvest them and we'll have more garlic."

"I know and I'm glad you're doing that, but they don't grow overnight, Sam. I need garlic for cooking. I bought some a week ago, enough to last me until your garlic grows and we can harvest them but the ones I bought are all gone!"

"They're not gone." Sam stood up, looking at the dirt that got stuck in his nails. Alright, he was guilty. "They're still in the kitchen."

You pinched the bridge of your nose. "Yes, they are still in the kitchen. But I do not have the heart to take them off the jars you put them on."

A way to grow garlic was to fill a jar (or a cup or any container) with water and then place the garlic (you bought in the market that your husband took) on the rim of the jar. Pick a container that the garlic can sit on its rim (so that it wouldn't fall into the container) with only the bottom of it touching the water. Soon roots will grow and the bulbs will sprout. Then you can separate the bulbs and plant them in the soil.

And that was what Sam did and has been doing. The problem was you needed garlic for cooking but whenever you looked at your pantry, they seem to just disappear.

"I'm sorry," Sam said with his head bowed. "It's just, I was so excited about planting more and I got a bit carried away."

A sigh left your lips, but this time you smiled sadly at him. You knew this was more than just the excitement of planting because the season has come.

Planting more flowers and vegetables and other plants provided more distraction from Frodo's absence.

You knew Sam was alright, and he was happy to be with you and build a family with you and he was happy to still hang out with Merry and Pippin. But Sam was Frodo's companion throughout the most dangerous journey they had. He followed Frodo, was there for Frodo, and Frodo followed him too and Frodo was there for him too.

They both knew the weight of carrying the ring. They've been to Mordor and back.

The goodbyes they exchanged was still a fresh memory for him.

As Sam fiddled with his fingers, you approached him with a small smile on your lips. You then cupped his cheeks and tilted his head up so you could look into his eyes. When he saw you were smiling, he relaxed and leaned against your touch.

"That's the last of my garlic that you're taking, alright? I'll buy more while waiting for yours to grow," you said, kissing the tip of his nose.

Sam nodded and he leaned forward to capture your lips. The corners of your lips tugged upwards in the middle of the kiss and Sam felt his heart swell with so much love. What you found in him to love him this much, he didn't know, but he was so happy you were there with him.

As the two of you stood there in each other's arms, basking in the warmth of your hug and the sunlight, Sam muttered, "Can I take some onions though? And don't throw the eggshells."

Groaning, you buried your face in the crook of his neck and grumbled, "Fine, you can take some. And I know—I have a sack nearly full of eggshells waiting to be crushed to be used as fertilizer."
