(Requested by anon: Hi! I adore your writing! Can you do Haldir x reader where the reader is in the fellowship and it’s the battle of helms deep and Haldir ends up dying like he does in the movies and idk angst stuff?

Author's Notes: this got too long hnngghhh I kept thinking what to omit but I don't knowwwww... Also this follows the scenes in the movie. In the books there were no elves present in the Battle of Helm's Deep. I also went with Haldir's blue eyes in the movie, well I think they're blue, I'm too lazy to check. I hope you like this and I hope it's not too much of a drag to read 😭😭

Warning: angst, death, hacking and slashing and stabbing)

"I know you are worried but I cannot help but also think that you doubt my skills in fighting!" you hissed. The elf and the dwarf did not meet your gaze and you regarded them with seething eyes. But Aragorn placed his hands on your shoulders.

"I have no doubt in your skill," he said. "I have seen you fight with a sword and anyone who wishes to challenge you will wish they had not. But this is war, (Y/N). This is different from what we have faced before."

You stepped back from his touch. "I am not trying to prove anything here, if that is what you also think of me. I want to fight because I also care for the future of our people. I want to fight because I have something to fight for too. And I do not want to stay hidden in the caves while my friends get hurt." The rage burning inside you died down and it was replaced with sadness. "I do not want to see people I care for die when I know I could have done something about it."

Legolas and Gimli looked at you with shame in their eyes. You feel how they feel. And who are they to say no to you? If they had been stopped by others, denied them the right to fight, they would have felt like you. To wait on the edge of death when you could have gone out there and caused even maybe a bit of a change and added a bit of hope would tear your hearts.

Aragorn was about to say something, and it was supposed to be an apology, when a horn sounded from afar. You all exchanged looks, knowing it wasn't a sound made by the orcs that you were expecting. So the three of you made your way up, leaving Gimli to his chain mail that was too long for him. There you saw the approach of the elves.

The marchwarden talked to King Theoden and honor their alliance. Aragorn then ran down the stairs to meet Haldir, for their coming had given hope to everyone. He pulled the elf into an embrace and you watched their interaction with a smile.

But Haldir's eyes found yours and you had to look away from the intense gaze. His eyes held relief and shock and worry and something you could not identify. If you continued to look, you would have melted right then and there.

From where you stood, you heard Haldir say something Aragorn. With his eyes still on you, Haldir said, "Why is the fair maiden out here? She should be protected."

You frowned and walked up to them. "I will fight," you answered. Ignoring Aragorn's grimace, you looked the marchwarden in the eye. "I will stand with my friends. This is my world too. I will fight for it."

They let you fight and take your place, but in exchange you were to stand beside Haldir. It wasn't a problem because you can understand basic Elvish, as well as commands, but you were grumpy that you were placed beside him. He had left a good impression on you (and possibly a small crush that grew as you continued to think of his fair face) when you went through Lothlorien but you momentarily forgot it due to his comment earlier.

As you stood there waiting for the enemy to come, Haldir stepped closer to you and said, "Please forgive me if my words have offended you. I did not mean to sound as if I do have not trust in your abilities."
