You closed your bag and sighed, leaning against the wall as you sat on the floor. Around you slept your companions. They had all finished packing while you were out strolling once more around Rivendell. But it wasn't for sightseeing—it was for you to think things through properly.

During your stay there, Lindir had been accompanying you every night in your walks. True to his word, he sang you a song after hearing you sing one from your world. His voice was music to your ears and it soothed your heart and mind. By your request, Lindir would sing you a song or two every evening you spent together walking around Rivendell. Even though you could not understand most of his songs, you felt something stir in your heart. There was a time when one of his songs moved you to tears.

Lindir had then looked at you in worry and cupped your face in his hands, wiping away your tears and pressing a kiss on your forehead.

"Why do you cry?" he had asked.

"I do not understand the words, but I hear the sorrow and longing in them," you had said. "And I see the sadness in your eyes. What is bothering you, Lindir?"

Lindir then looked down and whispered, "It is a song that I had composed for you."

"For me?" You lifted his chin so that you could see his eyes. "What have I done to cause you such sorrow?"

He took your hand and pressed it against his cheek. Leaning against the warmth of your hand, Lindir closed his eyes. "I am afraid of you leaving Imladris," he admitted. "I do not think you should go. The world is falling into shadow and evil roams the earth. It is too cruel for you. I wish to keep you safe, to have you here with me.

"Please do not go. Stay here where I know you will not be in harm's way."

It was your turn to avert your gaze. You bit your lip (and even with this serious conversation you were having, Lindir could not help but think how beautiful you are) and frowned at his words.

"Lindir, I... I must go, you know this," you said.

"You do not have to," he said. "Gandalf took you in because you knew no one when you were brought to this world. You only got into their trouble because Gandalf was on his way to meet the dwarves. You do not have to go."

What Lindir said was true. You owed them nothing. You weren't their kin. They had no intention of bringing you along with them in the first place. And you were sure you were only going to pull them down. What the Company needed was a fighter, someone who could endure the journey. You had acquired some knowledge on healing because of your background on first aid back in your world. But you weren't the best and you actually think you'd cause more damage than actually be helpful.
