(Warning: sad sad sad

T'was supposed to be a happy one but then I had the opportunity to make it sad and you know I love my angst for LOTR and The Hobbit.)

People have taken for granted how beautiful the blue sky was on a day like this. The sun was behind tufts of white clouds and as you looked towards the horizon, you smiled at how there were patches of land that were under the clouds' shadows and others that were bright under the sunlight.

A gentle breeze passed by and you kept a hand on your hair so that they wouldn't end up getting tangled. Your skirt swayed with the wind and you watched its folds cast shadows on the fabric.

The distant chirping of the birds helped you feel calmer and right then and there you wanted to just lay down on the grass and dream under the blue sky. But you had to get home before it got dark, so you settled with sitting down on the grass. Still looking towards the horizon, you sat there in silence.

Whilst admiring the wildflowers that have grown around you, you heard someone call out your name. You turned and to your delight, you saw your husband looking at you with a fond smile. He was wearing lighter clothes, suitable for the warm weather. You smiled and smiled even more when you heard sweet laughter come from the little girl in his arms.

Your heart swelled with so much love at the sight of your family.

You watched them make their way towards you, standing up when they were close enough. When he reached your side, he put an arm around your waist and kissed your forehead. Your daughter in turn opened her arms and begged to be carried by you, and you happily obliged. You pressed a kiss on her nose and chuckled when she giggled.

Looking up, you met his gaze and saw the softness and adoration in his eyes. And you knew your eyes held the same amount of love in them. Because this was everything that you both dreamt of. This was what you both fought for, the reason why you wanted to reclaim your home.

To have a bright future where your child could grow without having to fear anything.

He leaned in and pressed his forehead against yours. And before he captured your lips, he whispered, "I love you."

When your lips met, you closed your eyes and enjoyed the kiss. You felt his hold on you tighten when he pulled you closer to him. That moment seemed to last forever and you didn't want to end it.

But you had to open your eyes again.

And when you did, you were greeted by the sight of the blue sky, of the white tufts of clouds, of the shadows and the wildflowers and everything that made up this beautiful day.

But there was no sign of the man you called your husband. There was no sign of a little girl you called your own.

It was all a product of your imagination, of your dreams, of your desperation, of your guilt, sadness, and loneliness.

It was all an image of the promises and plans you both had whispered in the nights that you were still together.

And once again, as how it was when you were left alone in this world, you begin to wonder where you would be in life if he was still with you.
