(Author's Notes: this was requested by someone on Tumblr! I also followed the book on the part where the company arrived in Rivendell, just a heads up.

Warnings: none)

"An elf?"

You blinked. "Yes, an elf."

"And why should we bring an elf along with us?"

Your eye twitched. "If you would like to know,  why don't you start asking me instead of Gandalf?"

Thorin glared at you and you resisted the urge to yank his beard. You weren't talking like this because they were dwarves. You were annoyed because they were talking as if you didn't existed! If an elf or a man did this to you, it would have also made your blood boil, just so everything's clear. You were one of the elves who particularly have no interest in grudges that have developed ages ago.

"Look, I am only going with you for a short amount of time." You sighed and sat down on a chair in Bilbo's house that you think wasn't supposed to be used for sitting. "Once I reach my destination, you will not have to deal with me anymore. Besides, it is worth noting that there are people abroad who are trying to hunt you down. I can assist you in defending yourselves and finding your way through this lands."

The leader of the company was still wary but the others were beginning to give your offer a chance. Albeit reluctant, they knew elves had keen eyes and ears. They had also seen that you were good with a bow and arrow. You have proven to be a great addition to the group, even though you'll only be with them for a short time.

"I understand that you have your doubts," you said, "but I am trying to make a change too. This hatred between elves and dwarves has been going on for too long and I know there are reasons why they started and why they still exist. But I want to look past that. Someone's mistakes are not every dwarf's mistakes and mistakes made by some elves are not mistakes of every elf you'll meet.

"I do not want to hold a grudge on someone that has not done me wrong."

Your words start to stir something in Thorin's eyes and for the first time in years, he found respect for an elf.

To everyone's surprise, even Gandalf's, Thorin held out his hand.

You reached out and took it, shaking hands with him. You knew there was still work to be done and Thorin can still change his mind but small steps will lead to big changes and you were happy with even a small amount of respect from him.

And so you traveled with the Company with the promise of being only with them until you reach your destination, which was your home Rivendell, although for some reason they have forgotten to ask where you were heading. On your way there, the dwarves started to open up to you and you opened up to them. The teasing was the same as it had been before (elves were known for teasing dwarves about their beards) but it was taken lightly.

After the incident with the trolls, you all followed Gandalf's lead with you acting as a look out for any sign of pursuers. When the dwarves asked where the wizard was taking them, and when Gandalf answered that they were off to Rivendell, your heart soared with joy. You have been gone for too long after going on an errand and the sight of the familiar house was comforting.

As they hurried to the valley, the company was then welcomed by a chorus of singing that sounded like laughter. You sighed at your kin and their songs. There were days you loved to sing with them but today you were rather tired. When they caught sight of you, some of them jumped down from the trees and greeted you.
