(Author's Notes: it's been a long time since I wrote for this and I'm glad to continue. Thinking for ideas made me remember the little things and that makes me happy! Also doesn't it make you happy when you remember that you still have some of your favorite food that you can eat? Like everytime I have a bar of chocolate in the fridge and I remember that I still have some left I'm just so happy

I thought it would be nice to incorporate some of the little things I find joy in. Sometimes we get so overwhelmed by the bad stuff that's happening in the world, we forget to appreciate the little moments that make us smile. I hope this reminds you of them.)

"What makes you happy?"

"The thought of being able to eat your favorite food, especially sweets and snacks, after enduring a long day of work makes me happy."

"Goodness gracious my back hurts," you whimpered as you leaned back.

You've been by the river washing your clothes since this morning and you stayed there until it was afternoon and it was time to go home. Placing the dry clothes in your laundry basket, you made your way back to your house.

How you wished you could just go to bed and sleep but you still had to fold these clothes and clean up some more before cooking for dinner. While indeed your husband helped in doing the household chores, you knew he was doing more work than you were. So you thought of sparing him—he was supposed to be the one to cook dinner that night— and after rolling your sleeves up, you got back to work.

By the time you were placing dinner on the table, the front door opened and in came your husband. He was practically just dragging himself towards you and you sniggered when he threw himself onto the couch.

"Kili, are you alright?" you asked, smiling at your husband.

He barely lifted his head just to answer, "Definitely not alright. Who would be if you've been spending meetings which end up in pointless arguing and spending afternoons teaching the others how to fight?"

You sighed and made your way towards him. Kneeling by the couch, you placed a hand on his cheek and kissed his forehead.

"Alright, I know how tired you must be, dear. But go and change into more comfortable clothes and let's go eat dinner, After that we'll go to sleep," you said.

With a grunt, Kili pushed himself up and went to your bedroom to change. And with much effort, he sat himself down and ate dinner with you. When you were both done eating, you told Kili to go ahead and sleep. But being the stubborn one he is, he insisted he would stay there and keep you company. Kili was feeling guilty for letting you do all the housework so he thought it'd be nice to sit there and talk to you.

"I feel like I am forgetting something," you said while washing the dishes. "I just can't put my finger on it!"

"Keep thinking, my love," Kili said, chuckling. "You'll remember it soon."

You scrunched up your nose and turned off the faucet, thinking what was it you've forgotten. While you did so, Kili leaned forward, put his crossed arms on the table, and rest his chin on his arm. He so dearly wished there was something sweet to eat—he missed eating cake and pastries and sweets and he was already planning on buying some the day after tomorrow.

"I wish we had cake," he grumbled.

The moment he said that, your eyes widened and you were suddenly beaming.

"I remember now!" you said. You ran to the pantry and ignored the questions Kili shouted after you. He didn't have to wait long for the answer though because you quickly went back to him holding a box.

"What is this?" he asked.

You smiled and told him to open it while you took out two small plates and forks. Your smile turned into laughter when you heard Kili cry out in joy when he saw that the box contained a cake. The two of you took some slices and decided to save some for tomorrow.

"I feel so much better now," Kili said, and you giggled but nevertheless nodded in agreement. He smiled at you and continued, "You are the best, (Y/N), absolutely the best!"

This little moment did not come often but whenever it did, it made you happy and it made you look forward for the next ones. Of course it wasn't often you got to buy cake because of all the things you have to attend to. But whenever you did have the chance to buy something that satisfied both of your sweet tooth, it was always something that made you look forward to meals together. And when trying and dark times came and you rarely had the luxury to sit down and relax, the memories of happy moments like this kept the two of you going. It made the days and years to come bearable.

It made you look forward to something.

It made life worth living.
