Hamesha Wala Pyaar – Chapter 92

If being with Shehnaaz was a hell lot of fun, being with his in laws was double the fun. Their constant banter and cute arguments reminded him a lot about him and Shehnaaz. Papa would be adamant on his point over something silly and mummy would just melt him with a loving smile and a hug. In fact he couldn’t help but smile every time Mummy discreetly called him ‘Sunny’ which he later learnt was short for Santokh. Basically Mrs. Gill who had meekly lived her life under the shadow of her husband and her strict mother in law was living her life freely all over again. The moment they had learnt about Shehnaaz’s condition from his mother, they had set off for Mumbai in the next available flight.

And they had come armed with unbelievable stuff, an unlimited stock of jhappis and pappis along with a jad full of desi ghee, white butter, varieties of dried fruits, unadulterated jaggery and to think of it, all of this was home made, except the dry fruits of course. But the point was it was in such huge volumes that it would probably last them until Sugar plum was a year old. He felt like a ball lodging in his throat at that thought. “Please god let this be true. Let Sugar plum come into this world to experience the amount of love all these lovely people have to give” his heart prayed. Maa was also cajoled by Shehnaaz’s mom to stay over, turning the whole affair into a full blown Fam Jam. If it was the Sidharth from before two years he would have hated every
moment of this happy chaos but he clearly wasn’t the same anymore.

Today, he was a happily domesticated man, totally dedicated to his family and more specifically to his wife.

“Puttarji tu ther jaa, main laati hu paani” Shehnaaz’s mom got up to fetch water while her daughter slurped the yummy looking porridge, but sidharth was already at the door with her sipper full of warm water. “arre Sidharth puttar tu kyu laya, main jaa hi rahi thi” Mummy exclaimed taking the bottle from his hand “Mummy aap jabse aaye ho ek minute bhi khali nahi baithe ho, kuch na kuch karte rehte ho, awaaz lagaya karo Paras ko, woh daud ke le aayega” he spoke with concern “Bass mera nonu sahi Salamat nikle iss raule se, tab main aaram karungi. Tab tak hum dono maa beti date
rahenge” her loving hands caressed Shehnaaz’s face and she bent over kissing her forehead.

“Mumma, Sidharth sahi keh raha hai waise, nonu toh theek hi hai, kya hona hai usko, but nonu ke piche daud lagane ke liye aapko fit rehna hai” her soft giggles and the pinkness of her cheeks which was missing since a two days was back again. “Mummy aap jaao, jaake so jaao, main hu na aapki beti ki seva mein. Main dekh lunga” while saying this Sidharth had bent over in front of Shehnaaz like an obedient butler, making her mother cackle with laughter. She came close to him and patted his back

“hayye kitna biba munda hai yeh, rab kare punjab ke har ghar ko iske jaisaa jamaai mile” Mummy’s words were backed by Maa as she entered in with a glass of Saunf ka paani and handed it over to Shehnaaz. “Yeh toh sahi kaha Pammiji aapne, mera Sidharth hai hi laakhon mein ek, lekin meri Shehnaaz bhi karodo mein ek hai” Maa sat by her and looked at Sidharth with a smug smile. Sidharth wasn’t obviously pleased with his mother siding his wife

“Yaar tum dono mummy’s ko main abhi warning de raha hu, please jaake aaram karo, main nahi chahta ki aap dono mein se koi beemar ho jaye. M there to look after her. Aur kal Subah path bhi hai, toh please save your energies” Sidharth feigned annoyance and literally drove the over enthusiactics moms out of the room for their own sake. Sitting by Shehnaaz’s side he spoke excitedly

“Suna Mumma Shukla, mere jaisa jamai sabko mile” Sidharth’s vanity boarded over as he dusted his shoulders.

Shehnaaz rolled her eyes with a lopsided smile “Bada khush ho raha hai tu, mumma ne bola ha tere jaisa jamai mile, tu nahi..Aur waise bhi.. suna na maa ne kya kaha? Hum karodo mein ek tum jaise laakhon mein ek logo ko puchte bhi nahi..samjha?” Shehnaaz scoffed licking off the remnants of the porridge.

“ohh achha theek hai fir, waise bhi you are going to be busy with Sugar plum now, toh main koi laakhon wali dhund leta hu” he hadn’t even finished his sentence when She hastily placed the bowl to her side and turned to him bunching his tshirt in her fists “main na marungi tujhe...tu sirf aur sirf hamara hai, mera aur nonu ka, samjha?” and in the next instant her teeth were clutching his lower lip.

“fuckkkkk, mat kar baby, lag gayi meko” Sidharth yelped, pulling himself back and
nursing his lip with his fingers. “Thank god you are pregnant, nahi toh maine tujhe yatch wali punishment night yaad dilani thi” his naughty smirk made her hide her face in her palms as her mind went thru the amorous night. “When Sugarplum is bit older, we will go back to the yatch ha swty, for a post babymoon” Sidharth pecked the side of her head and bumped his head on hers gently.

“Sab theek hoga na puttu?” Although she put up a brave front her fears came back from time to time but he was quick to address them. He held her hands in his, rubbing the pad of his thumb on the back of her palms “sab theek ho jayega jaan, and with the way both the moms are looking after you, m sure we are going to walk out of the clinic happily on Friday” his tone was assuring “But mujhe darr lag raha hai, jiss rate pe tujhe khila pila rahe hai na yeh log, loaded with desi ghee an all, mera sugar plum kahi diabetic plum banke naa aaye bahar” he chuckled earning an elbow jabs in his ribs that make him wince.

The following morning, Mr.Gill had called a few people over from the Gurudwara for the Sukhmani Path. Sidharth had never been religious but if along with taking care of her, the family believed that the spiritual intervention would help then he was no one to oppose it. The whole house was covered with the subtle scents of incense sticks, as the pious hymns echoed across the scapce filling it with positive energy. The priests gathered the whole family together and prayed for their well being, their baby whose existence was still questionble, sadly, and prosperity of the whole family.
It felt like the whole week had passed by in a heart beat. Both the moms and Mr. Gill had all been on their toes to make sure Shehnaaz took her tablets on time, ate nutritious food, rested well and with their combined years of experience, geared her health up.

And here they were antsy and anxious about going for the scan again tomorrow. Shehnaaz’s health, her good mood and the glow on her skin had already made him confident that their Sugar plum had made it. But he was wary about speaking out his heart confidently fearful of jinxing his own happiness. So he was awaiting for the wise doctor to confirm it so that they can celebrate properly.
