Wang Pangzi
The past ten years have undoubtedly been the hardest he has ever lived through in his entire life. Ever since Xiaoge walked through the door, everything changed and not exactly for the better. Wu Xie was heartbroken for about a week, just trying to come to terms with the fact that he wasn't going to see Xiaoge for the next ten years. Ten years where he was going to grow old without him and with the threat of maybe another ten years following his return. That, of course, makes Wu Xie obsessed with finding a way to make sure those damn ten years were more than enough and free him from that burden no matter what it takes. And that he did.
Although at first, Wu Xie was a little hurt by their betrayal, in the end, he understood that their silence was in fact a kind of protection towards him and a show of loyalty towards Xiaoge, which was in a way something that Wu Xie appreciated, knowing that in case something happened to him, at least his lover would have others to take care of him instead. Then there was the matter of ensuring that Xiaoge was permanently free from the gate, which in turn led to the hidden war between the Zhang's and the Wangs.
Thus began their own war, as Wu Xie was told everything Zhang Rishan knew about the Wangs and the influence they have practically everywhere. Going through all the information Zhang Rishan had gathered over the years took Wu Xie the better part of a year to have a precise picture of all the ramifications, the extent of the new hidden 'ten' family and the network they had created with all the complicity it involved to then start their downfall.
No one doubted that Wu Xie had the drive, patience, and ability to accomplish the seemingly impossible task, but given the magnitude of such a task, taking down a family that was generations ahead of them, not to mention their extensive network of spies across almost all of the Nine Families, was something colossal and dangerous to the extreme, because the Wangs were not only resourceful, they were also brutal when they have to be.
That was when everything went downhill, because planning was one thing but making it happen was another and in order for things to be done properly, Wu Xie also had to go to extremes and put himself through his darkest moment to make it happen and it had been hell to see Wu Xie lose his purity to become a shell of his former self. He risked his life and sanity and failed again and again, to the point that he started to make scars on his arms from each failure. The whole process of Wu Xie forcing himself to destroy an enemy that most of the time had one foot in front of everyone was heartbreaking and Pangzi wanted to get Wu Xie out of all that madness so badly it was maddening, but he couldn't do it even when he had try to reason with Wu Xie that he was killing himself a bit at a time, because Wu Xie loved Xiaoge more than himself.
In the end, he could only watch the painful process and try to do his best to keep Wu Xie in one piece of his new broken personality like he promised Xiaoge and protect him as best as he could and even that has been difficult as they once almost lost Wu Xie to someone who almost killed him on the spot back in the snowy mountains of Tibet where his throat was slit. It was just his luck that Wu Xie did not die there, although the scar, just like the ones he got on his arms, still remained and that one was harder to hide, which worried Wu Xie a little, once the whole ordeal was over and Xiaoge was finally free from the Wangs for good.
In a way, now that it was all over and they were back in the Heavenly Palace, Wu Xie was a bundle of nerves and insecurities about how Xiaoge would view him. He was ten years older, no longer pure and innocent, he was riddled with scars and one in particular was a remnant of a time that death had almost taken in its arms and taken him away from having been there to fulfill his promise. He didn't know if Xiaoge would still love him once he found out that he was a mass of darkness, a master of deception and a murderer.
