We still hadn't said anything twenty minutes later when Niall finally pulled into the tiny parking lot of a small restaurant. We jumped out and Niall locked the doors, I looked up at the small building reading the name, Dina's Cafe. Once inside we where greeted warmly by a lady in her mid forties,

“Just two? Right this way.” She said giving us a warm smile and leading us to a small booth in the corner of the restaurant, Niall and I both sat down across from each other. I looked around and it appeared that we where the only ones here. The lady smiled again and gave us both menu's. “Your waitress will be out in a few minutes.” She said kindly, before turning and walking through a door labeled ’Kitchen’. Niall and I picked up our menu’s and started searching through them. At that moment we both heard yelling from the kitchen.

“No, Catori, you are not going out there, you can’t, your just going to embarrass yourself.” Niall and I looked up at each other, shock coloring our faces. I looked up and a pretty, young girl about nineteen she was tall and thin, a curtain of long wavy black hair fell down to her mid back and freckles where scattered across her nose and cheeks. She walked out of the kitchen and up to us, a determined look in her teary eyes but a small smile on her face. She pulled out a notepad and pen out of her apron and took a shaky breath.

“I am Catori, I will take your order.” She said funnily, almost as if she hadn’t spoken for a very long time. My mouth fell open and the lady who showed us our seat came out of the kitchen and ran up to Catori, grabbing her arm roughly. Catori started crying and tried to pull away, “No, no!” She yelled in the same voice.

“I am so sorry, I told her not to come out here, she’s so ambitious but she’s...”

“Deaf.” I whispered, the lady looked at me with wide eyes,

“How did you...” She started.

“Her voice.” I said looking away, hoping I didn’t sound snobbish, I leaned over and tapped Catori on her hand,

'Are you okay' I signed with my hands, Catori gasped then nodded yes. 'Do you still want to be our waitress?' I asked her,

'Can I?' She signed back a pleading look in her bright blue eyes.

'Of course.' I told her, and a smile broke across her face. I sat back and smiled at the lady,

“Is it all right if Catori stays our waitress.” I asked the lady looked between me then Catori twice before she nodded. Catori smoothed out her apron, wiped her eyes and smiled,

'What would you like to drink?' She signed, I looked at Niall who was sitting in his seat, mouth slightly open and his eyes wide.

“She wants to know what you would like to drink.” I said to Niall, He blinked and closed his mouth,

“Umm a coke will be fine,” I nodded and picked out my drink, I looked up at Catori to give her our order and I almost laughed, she had her hand to her mouth and her eyes where huge as she jumped up and down pointing at Niall,

'You know who he is?' I asked her, Catori stopped jumping and rolled her eyes.

'Of course, he’s Niall Horan from One Direction, the best boy band of all times!' She signed excitedly, I laughed and Niall pulled on my arm,

“What is she saying?” He asked,

“She recognizes you.” I said, Catori touched Niall on the shoulder to get his attention,

'Can I have your autograph?' She asked, then acted like she was signing the air. Niall looked puzzled for a second before he understood.

“Oh, sure.” He said pulling a sharpie out of his pocket. Catori smiled and untied her white apron, lying it on the table she pointed to where she wanted Niall to sign it. He did and she put it back on proudly. I smiled and signed her our drink order. Catori wrote it down, flashed us a smile and returned to the kitchen.

“Well that's ironic,” Niall said resting his chin on his hand shaking his head,

“What is?” I said scanning the menu, finding what I wanted I closed it. I looked up and Niall was still shaking his head,

“Well I came here because I wanted a normal evening out.” He said messing with the top of the salt shaker, I smiled and sighed. We waited until Catori came back with our drinks, placing them in front of us she stepped back and asked us what we would like to eat.

'Thank you for choosing Dina's Cafe.' Catori signed to me after our meal.

'No problem.' I signed back.

'Do you text?' I asked, she nodded and pulled her phone out of her back pocket, we swapped numbers and Catori turned to go but Niall tapped her arm holding her back, she looked at Niall then at me.

“Catori what time do you get off work?” Niall asked and I signed it for him, Catori looked back and forth at us and slowly signed,

'6:30'

I told Niall and he smiled and held out his hand, in it was a ticket and a wider piece of laminated paper with a card holder attached to it. Catori took them and looked at them, she gasped and hugged Niall and I around the neck,

'Thank you, so much,' She signed to us,

'Your welcome.' I signed, even though I had no clue what he had given her. Catori hugged us again and Niall and I waved goodbye. When we got back in the truck I turned to Niall,

“What did you give her?” I asked buckling my seat belt. He smiled and started the car.

“A ticket to see our show tomorrow night and a back-stage pass.” I stared at him, a feeling of pure admiration washing through me. “I know she can’t hear but I thought she might like to come anyway, at least she will be able to meet the guys, she seemed like a big fan.” He said shrugging. I smiled at him.

“You are so sweet,” I said, Niall smiled and pulled out.

“We have an hour and a half before I have to be back, what do you want to do till then?” He asked, I shrugged, not really caring.

“I don’t know.”

Niall smiled wider, “Sounds good to me.”
