♡ Part 70: Lovers Before Best Friends ♡

TO NARUTO

naruto: ...really?

doctor: mr.uzumaki, you still have a few weeks to go before thinking of playing hockey. in the next 2 weeks, i recommend visiting me again for another check up. as of right now, your ankle is healing well

naruto: you hear that sakura?!

sakura's world of thoughts was taken away from her once he called out. she gave him a dazed gaze for a brief second before flashing one of her best grins

sakura: sounds great

naruto's grin decreased ever so slightly

doctor: take it easy, we'll run an x-ray to see the changes. one second please

with that, the doctor exited the room and sakura sighed

naruto: what's wrong

sakura: sasuke

that was enough information for naruto to understand

naruto: you can take your early leave, i can do this alone

his smile lingered the slightest bit of bitterness although sakura refused

sakura: you need me here, naruto. it's fine

naruto shook his head

naruto: you need to go to him..... this was important for him

the blonde boy forced a tight smile onto his lips

naruto: c'mon sakura-chan, after what happened---

sakura: i know

she cut him off because she knew what he was going to say

naruto: but we need to secretly make it up to teme, no matter what.

sakura: right

naruto: so go

sakura stared at naruto and could see right through him to know that his smile was forced and fake--- although she silently nodded and stood up. 

naruto: bye sakura

sakura sadly smiled at her best friend

sakura: bye..

the pinkette gathered her things and took her leave from the room. naruto sighed loudly and right then, the doctor came back to the room. they began to run some x-rays but all the blonde boy could think of was sakura. her smile was sad, but she should know better. she should know that she needs to prioritize sasuke over him. no matter what, sasuke should always come first simply because that's how it needed to be

'lovers before best friends.... that's just... so twisted'

it sounded horrible in many ways, but in this case, it needed to happen

TO SAKURA

guilt ran through her body as she sped-walked her way to sasuke's home. she never wanted to hurt him, but now that she thought things over, she clearly did the exact thing she never wanted to do. what made things worse was that she chose a play date instead of hearing her lover out. yes, it's one thing to put best friends before lovers--- but to do that successfully, it's needed to make sure the lover doesn't get hurt while you're at it. that was something that sakura miserably failed at

once she reached his door, she knocked right away. after a few moment of waiting, the door opened revealing a weary raven. 

sakura: sasuke...

sasuke: it's cold, come

she nodded and he let her in. once he did so, she immediately faced him and wrapped her arms around him. the guilt was unreal

sakura: sasuke, i'm sorry... it was a mistake going with naruto in the first place

sasuke was silent

sakura: i want to know what you wrote and i'm here for that.

he was still silent

sakura: sasuke..

sasuke: this was a hard decision to make, hmph

sakura: i understand--

sasuke: but you chose a play date over me

sasuke wasn't the type to exclaim his feelings, but because of sakura, he's developed the habit of at least sugar coating his feelings and saying it.

sakura slowly removed him from her grasp and stared into his onyx eyes. emerald and onyx were glued to each other yet nothing was being said

sasuke: ...

sakura: you can tell me now

the raven stared at her with eyes that never dared to betray any emotion. he wanted to tell her, although there was a part of him that felt like he needed his space for a bit from her, from this situation, from everything.

sasuke: i need to do something

his answer received a frown from the pinkette. she slowly nodded knowing very well that he was lying although she couldn't blame him. the decision was important for him and yet she completely disregarded it. she forced a smile onto her lips and looked up to his face

sakura: sure, i'll see you on monday then

with an ache that only increased by the second, sakura turned on her heels and left without uttering another word to sasuke. before he could bid her goodbye, she had already slipped past the door and closed it behind herself. sasuke stood there for a few moments until he made his way back to his living room and plopped onto the couch

itachi: shunning her away like that won't fix anything, sasuke

sasuke: hmph

sasuke knew that very well, but he just didn't want to face any of it for now at least. he wasn't being a chicken or anything, it was just that he didn't want to hear the already truth that he's been thinking about

that just so happened to be that he could see a shift in sakura and narutos friendship, making it a lot more obvious to sasuke that there had yet to be things he needed to figure out.

TO SAKURA

she trudged her feet through the snowy roads of konoha with her head ducked down. she wasn't pleased with the way things happened in sasuke's house but she wasn't all too surprised either. she was used to sasuke being cold hearted or shallow--- but a part of her wished that she could've just rewind time to make things right. but even so, there was a part of her that wished she was with naruto right now as well

once she opened the door to her household, she was met by 3 pairs of eyes

obito: oi sakura!

rin: nice seeing you, dear

kakashi flashed her an eye-smile before continuing to run over papers with his two friends. she smiled at the fact that kakashi actually had friends over and made her way to her room as soon as possible. she closed the door behind herself and jumped onto her bed face-flat. she groaned in annoyance and stayed in that position for a solid 5 minutes. she was happy that naruto was coming for the weekend like usual, but the bitterness from her situation with sasuke still lied beneath her smile.

she just wanted to be a good friend to naruto and be a good girlfriend to sasuke, but it just so happened to be much harder than she expected---- especially after hearing naruto's feelings
