Tetsu closed his eyes as the beams continued to rain down.

"Hey, Tetsu, what are you doing?" I snapped as I deflected some of the rays coming at him.

Agnes's green core suddenly broke off from the rest of the shield and melded into my cousin's forehead. The rest of it split up into seven petal-shaped parts that floated around us.

"What's this technique?" I said as I eyed the accelerating shield parts all around us. Only a few beams were getting through to us for me to block.

"It's one I learned from my guardian angel," Tetsu said, grinning as he pointed forward. The metallic petals distanced themselves from us as their rapid movements created a seemingly impenetrable shield around us.

I snickered. "You want me to teach you new attacks when you already got these handy new cards up your sleeve?"

"Hey, anything that can help, right?"

I turned away and chuckled. "Yeah, but at this point, I want you to teach me some of your tricks in return."

"Impressive. Where did you learn to bend orichalcum?" Aventine asked. She had reverted back to normal, but in her hands were both rapiers.

Right, that shield is made up of orichalcum. Not even Zafir could bend it back in Xeleria, though those were beams.

Tetsu slowed down Agnes' petals and glanced up at my guardian angel as she floated down.

"I got some lessons from Halim on metal control, and like I said, I learned how to do this from my angel."

Aventine smiled. "That weapon really is something. As expected of Esquilino's past owner and Tekeshi. Sadly, both are unavailable to aid us in this war."

"We can still rescue my uncle!" I said. "According to Tetsu, your father said we need to save him, meaning he's still alive!"

The tips of her rapiers touched, causing them to merge back into one and transform into my uncle's Obsidianus Catus.

"Then, let's see if you can overcome the power of your predecessor!"

Tetsu jumped forward and grabbed hold of her whip-sword as it came at him. He gritted his teeth. Blood trickled down his hand as the black blades passed through it. He stretched out his other hand and grabbed it as tightly as he could until it came to a halt.

I dashed forward and aimed my sights on the hilt. I couldn't let this chance get away from us.

Aventine yanked back the sword, causing it to slid through Tetsu's hands.

"No!" I yelled, throwing my sword at a gap between blades.

Obsidianus Catus screeched as two of its segments clanged against my sword. Aventine turned her gaze at me and kicked me just as I was about to grab hold of her weapon.
