I narrowed my eyes at Roa's father. According to the info that Takeshi had given us on the pillars, he was Skah, the Rooster Pillar. The file on him said he wasn't much of a fighter, but he was incredibly fast. His powers meanwhile included fire, ice, and lightning. Nori was capable of absorbing flames, while Kohri and I could resist his ice should he use it. Now, his lightning was what I needed to watch out for.

Skah eyed me as I slowly got closer to Ximena and Nori.

He snickered. "I don't wish to fight. I only need to talk to my nephew, is all."

"He's asleep as you can see," Ximena said, stepping back.

He nodded. "Seems like it. I'll just have to wait for him to wake up."

Was he really not going to try to take him like that Camio guy?

"What do you need to talk to him about?" I asked.

Skah turned around. "About his little brother. My dad wishes to reunite them. We plan to offer him the position of Tiger Pillar."

"Serrano loves his brother, but he wouldn't turn his back on us," Ximena said.

He sighed. "Yeah, I figured he would've done it by now if that were the case." He crossed his arms over his chest. "Still, he's important for us."

I stared at his back. His guard was down. If I wanted to, I could turn a drone of Caelio on him and shoot him down where he stood.

But would he genuinely keep his guard down in front of his enemies? Or was he stronger than his older brother gave him credit for? Or maybe he was just too laid-back for his own good?

I took a deep breath. Skah may have been the enemy, but I felt a sense of familiarity. Maybe it was because I too let my guard down most of the time.

I stepped forward. "Go back and tell Reginald that Serrano is not joining your cause."

He frowned. "I don't want to give up without giving it a shot. Plus, by having him on our side, it would be easier to recruit his cousin."

All of us gasped.

"Master?" Yuko asked.

"Tetsu is less likely to join you!" Ximena snapped.

I nodded.

Skah turned around and gave Xime a sharp look. "Is he? I heard what happened recently, how he was treated by your king, and how he was rejected even by his fellow knights and countrymen."

"How do you know that?" I asked, taking a step forward.

"Satoru told us that. While he wasn't exactly a trustworthy fellow, I doubt he would lie about something like that." He gave me a pained look. "I trust that I hit the nail on the head?"

"Yeah, you did," I said, trying to not look away from him. I couldn't let his words lower my guard. Satoru used that to his advantage. Even Roa and Etsuo did, back when the two of them pretended to befriend me.
