[11 Years Before the Five Knights Met]

I stared at the picture of my late wife as I rested my back in my big bed. She was smiling as she embraced Rosa, who seemed enamored with the plushie she gave her. Today was to be the second time that Rosa would celebrate her birthday without her around.

I turned and pulled open a drawer on my nightstand and slid the picture inside. How ironic. Days ago, I had thrown Rosa's plush out of the window to help her forget her mom. And before that, I had thrown it in the trash can. I should've known after that first attempt that the second wouldn't go well. In fact, I nearly lost Rosa because of it. Never did I expect her to open the door of the limo and jump out. I was fortunate that she ended up at my cousin Anis' place.

I averted my eyes from the nightstand as I closed it. I had done an excellent job of pretending that her death didn't impact me. Even if my daughters grew up to think I was a cold man, I had to do it. If they saw me sad, then they too would be. I had to be strong for them.

I pushed myself up from bed and walked over to the bathroom right across from me. As soon as I was inside, I glanced at myself. My eyes had turned red from crying.

"You are great at faking coldness, but in reality, you're as soft as the insides of a lobster," a voice echoed. A cloaked figured appeared seating on the edge of the porcelain bathtub.

"Mammon," I said.

The demon raised her head and stared at me through the mirror with glowing red-eyes. "Have you accepted my offer, King Osamu? If you do, you won't have to worry about your daughters, nor your kingdom. You alone will have all the power you need to protect it. Not to mention, the wealth to turn your ideals into reality."

I lowered my head. "You're a demon. Your words are filled with lies."

"You don't believe me? Fine, then. One of these days, you'll lose all that you hold dear. When that day comes, you will come to look for me." She chuckled. "I'll be waiting for that day."

I turned around, but she was not there. I had already lost a lot of people I held dear. My parents, wife, and brother-in-law had died. The best friend I believed dead was in fact alive, but something was off about him. Not to mention, my own twin brother had become a hollow shell of his former self.

I sighed and glanced back at the mirror. My eyes widened as I saw Mammon remained seated in the same spot.

"What? Changed your mind already?" she asked, leaning forward.

I closed my eyes and shook my head. "No. Now, disappear."

"As you wish, sire."

I opened my eyes and saw only myself reflected in the mirror.

That demon first appeared in front of me on the day of my wife and brother-in-law's funeral. I knew that the power she offered wasn't nothing. She was an archdemoness after all. Their power rivaled that of the archangels. However, there was always a catch to their offers of 'assistance'.
