I smiled and dashed over to Hyosetsu, slamming him in the gut with my tail. Or at least I would've if he hadn't blocked with the side of his wakizashi. Still, the force of the attack was enough to knock him off of his footing.

He smiled and spun around, blocking my tail as I tried to hit him from behind. I wrapped my tail around his hand and the hilt of the katana. I swung my tail upward, throwing both of them into the air.

Hyosetsu tightened the grip on his sword and swung it downward, cutting the battlefield with a mighty sword beam.

I leaped out of the way, formed a sphere of fire on the tip of my shield, and launched it at him. Hyosetsu dove down, dodging the attack and waved his icy wings, unleashing a blizzard-like flurry of snow and wind.

I raised my shield over my head and formed a mana extension around it so that it could guard me entirely against the freezing gale.

I spun around as Hyosetsu appeared behind me, whipping him on the side with my tail. Though, that was partially on accident. A helpful one, though.

Hyosetsu gripped his side and backed away.

"That's what you get for trying to sneak up on people," I said, smirking.

He removed his hands from his side as his blue aura healed the wound. "Not bad, I got to be more cautious around that tail of yours," he said as he hurried around me. Various afterimages encircled me.

How long will he be able to keep this form up?

"I can do that too," I said, matching his speed. The two of us charged at each other. By luck, we managed to hit each other instead of one of the afterimages the other hand made.

The force of our weapons clashing sent both of us flying again. I spun around in mid-air and whacked the ground with my tail, whipping up a miniature sandstorm.

Looks like we're evenly matched. I need to figure out how to break this deadlock.

I ducked as spikes of ice races toward me. Thankfully, the sandstorm was eroding bits of the ice away.

I smiled. Maybe I should test out my new technique.

I held out my hands. Metal mana accumulated in my palms, until I held two baseball-sized spheres of it. I threw them both into the air. The balls exploded in midair, raising down iron sand all around us.

"Metal, huh?" Hyosetsu said as he came after me.

At my command, the dust and iron sand spun around me, coming together to form a dark grey hoop. The more that I interacted with the dust, the more that a sense of familiarity rained over me. It was certainly my father's mana. Yet it was different from the one I knew, it wasn't as refined. How long did it take for him to grow as strong as he was when I fought him at home? I would need that kind of power to protect Zionia.
