I felt the heat rush to my cheeks as I caught Jungkook watching me silently, his eyes sparkling in the artificial light as he twiddled his plastic fork between his fingers. "Koo, you're staring," I chuckled nervously, glancing away at all the people that bustled about the food court. Jungkook had chosen a table smack dab in the middle of the mall, making us visible to every eye that peered in our direction. I'd caught a couple of girls and young men glancing at the brunet, leaning close to whisper to each other or doing double takes with wide eyes, yet he seemed completely unbothered by it.
"I realize," Jungkook mumbled, chewing absently on his lower lip. His soft gaze scanned over my face, making me feel warm and tingly. I decided to ignore him and continue eating, nibbling at the end of my fork. Scooting his chair forward with a screech against the floor, Jungkook extended his arm to tuck a strand of hair behind my ear, taking a moment to caress the side of my face before pulling away. "Why're you so beautiful?"
I simply stared back at him, trying not to choke on my food as I swallowed it. My heart beat loudly in my chest, sending shivers up and down my spine as I felt the brunet's touch linger on my skin. "I-I don't know," I stuttered, Jungkook simpering as I fumbled over my words. "Ask my mom."
"I'll have to give her a call when we get home then. Thank her for giving me such a beautiful girlfriend."
A few tables down, a pair of heads snapped up with wide eyes, looking back-and-forth between me and Jungkook with disbelief. I felt a wave of panic flood my system as I thought of a scandal surfacing about us; all these eyes taking in such a sight as Jungkook wandering about a busy mall with a foreign girl at his hip.
"I'd pass on that," I laughed nervously, staring down at my food. I picked at it to calm my nerves, my mind jumping between being noticed and being completely swathed in Jungkook's gaze, making it seem as if I were the only one in the room. "She'd probably start a whole rant about why she loves me so much. It'll- It'll take too damn long."
The brunet before me chuckled softly, continuing to eat his food until we were both full. He gathered our trash and threw it away, coming back to offer me his hand and haul me upstairs. We'd walked back out to his car to deposit the items we'd purchased at the previous store, coming down to the bottom of the mall to eat before continuing our little "date". Now, I assumed Jungkook wanted to continue browsing, bouncing about from store to store until the sky began to grow grey with the new evening.
Jungkook's hand tightened around mine, something cold and solid digging into my flesh. I glanced down at his left hand, noticing the glint of silver on his wedding finger. The ring I'd offered him a few nights before sat snug on his finger, flashing in the light as he swung our hands back-and-forth between us. The sight of the ring on his hand sent butterflies alight in my stomach; I picked my gaze up to find Jungkook watching me quietly as he stepped off to the side, out of traffic, leaning back against the wall and hooking his arm around my waist.
"Where do you wanna go?" he pondered, adjusting his mask across his face.
I lifted his hand, both of our eyes locking on the ring, the purple butterfly standing out against his pale, veiny skin. "You're wearing it?" I whispered, almost in disbelief. I expected Jungkook to tuck the velvet box away in the corner of his nightstand, never to see the light of day for months to come until he just so happened to stumble upon it. But, that wasn't the case. Jungkook blinked down at me, his eyes crinkling at their corners as he smiled beneath his mask.
