Mahi's POVAfter exchanging the garlands, we all proceeded to the wedding mandap.It was decorated with flowers, drapes of sheer cloth material, and lights. The pandit ji offered a small bowl of water to Ron, he had to drink. He sprinkled some of it on his feet and drank the rest. Then Pandit Ji offered a special concoction made with curd, honey, milk, ghee, and other sacred essences. ( This is known as the Panchamrit ) we had to take a sip of that drink before the wedding rituals commenced.We sat down and after a few mantras, my parents were called for the Kanyadaan (An old Vedic ritual, in which the bride is given away by his parents to the groom. He requests the groom to take good care of his daughter and the groom accepts the bride's hand and promises her father that he will treat her with utmost love and respect throughout his life.)The wedding havan was lit which is the sacred fire. ( In Hindu custom, the fire deity is the foremost witness of a wedding.) A plate was handed over to each couple, which had fourteen parallel lines drawn on a bed of flour with flowers. " These lines symbolize fourteen vows of marriage. 7 for the groom and 7 for the bride. " The priest said and said these vows one by one through Vedic mantras, Ron repeated after him and erased one line with a flower bud. He said his 7 vows and then I said my 7 vows.We did all the rituals and finally, we said our 7 vows each. Pandit Ji was explaining the vows to everyone. Roohi tied the ends of our stoles in a tight knot and we encircled the sacred fire. Amidst the divine chants, Ron and I took our vows, took pheras around the sacred fire, signifying the eternal bond of marriage, and sought blessings for a harmonious life ahead.Ron applied the Sindoor (vermilion) on my hair parting and tied the mangal sutra around my neck. All the rituals were completed and pundit Ji declared that we were married.We took the blessings of all the elder ones. Post-wedding, we were led to the dinner table. We sat down to have food with our life partners and family members. Guests indulged in delicious Punjabi and Gujarati cuisines as laughter and cheer filled the banquet hall.Ron's POVMyra said something in Mahi's ear and she closed her eyes and tried to hide her face behind her hand. Before she could get normal, Myra again said something and my beautiful bride turned red. She blushed beautifully. I could not even eat food out of the excitement that Mahi was going to share my life and my room from now onwards.My friends were teasing me, but I was not bothered. " Ron, you are not eating?? Has Mahi told you not to eat anything?? " Sujal asked. " Nahin he is like, ' Ab hum Kutch khaenge pienge to shaadi ke bad. ( I will drink or eat only after I get married)" Shaurya said and everyone burst out laughing. " You are already married now, have food. " Shlok teased me. " Yes, in fact, I would say that you should eat more than usual. You would need the calories. " Viren said. " Shut up!! " I said and had some food. " That is not fair Ron, you should take care of Mahi. She is not eating anything. C'mon, feed her by your hand." Raj said. " Raj is getting romantic day by day. " Shlok said. We all smiled. " That's because of my sister." " Ron is already romantic, isn't it Ron?" Myra asked smiling at me. I nodded and shook my head to tell her not to tell everyone but Viren saw that." Hey, what was that Myra?? Tell all of us about it. . " " No!! " I said. " Come out with it, Myra. " " C'mon Ron, what is the big deal?? You are already married to her, Don't worry, Manik or Mehul uncle won't kill you now. " Myra said and Raj laughed. I rolled my eyes. She told everyone that I went to the haldi ceremony pretending to be Raj and applied haldi to Mahi. " You, idiot!! I will beat you. " Manik said. " Hey, what is your problem, you can't beat me now, you have already done it. I have not beaten you for marrying my sister Rosh. " I said. " Hey, rosh is my sister too, I have not punched him either. Ron, come, Let's beat him. " " Being your twins, Raj and I are also Rosh's brother. Let's all four of us beat him. " Shlok said. " You idiots, Ron got married today, you need to tease him not me. " Manik said shaking his head. " So where are you taking her for the honeymoon? " Sujal asked. " Anywhere, where we can be alone. " I said and they all burst out laughing. " No way!! We are also going with you. We haven't gone for ours till now. " Raj said. " But why do you need to go with us??" " What is your problem, if we go with you?? " Raj asked. " You will start that jagrata again. " I said. " Jagrata?? " Everyone asked in unison. They were shocked to hear it. " Jagrata' is 'keeping awake at night'. This word denotes a special type of ritual in which devotees congregate, sing devotional songs, and praise some or the other deity especially Goddess Durga keeping awake the whole night." Sujal said looking confused. " Raj you do jagrata at night?? We interrupted your jagrata' that night when you got so angry??" Shaurya asked. " You may do jagrata but I can't imagine my sister doing it. " Viren looked confused as well. " Oh, please!! Will you all shut up!! Do you think I can do that?? " Myra said. " Yeah, that's what I said. " Viren said. " Viren, shut up!! Only I will speak. He wanted to spend some time with her and we wanted to tease them and ....." She explained the whole incident. " What?? You wanted to make love to her when she stayed at your place? I will surely beat you now." " Aree they were irritating me so I just said that either I want to spend time with Mahi or Raj. I knew she would choose Raj. " " You?? And Raj?? Does that mean what I think, it means?? " Viren asked with an angry look. " It is the result of being related to a family that comes without a filter. I know what you are thinking but I just said that to get rid of your sister and brother-in-law. C'mon yaar, they got married recently, they should have a sweet romantic night, not spend the night with us having popcorn, chips, and a cold drink, watching a stupid movie with Roohi, ruhan, and us. " I said. " Oh, c'mon it was a family time, not jagrata. " Raj said. " I don't want to see you on my honeymoon. " I said. Everyone was laughing. " And you sent all of them away?? But when I called you, you said she was not with you?? " Manik asked. " Yes, she was not with me, once they left, we talked for about ten minutes and went to our respective rooms. " " Liar!! Liar!! " Everyone said except me and Manik. " Ask your sister if you don't trust me. " I said and Manik looked at Mahi. She smiled shyly and nodded. " Mahi, do you mind if we go on honeymoon with you? " Raj asked. I shook my head at Mahi. " No, not at all I would love it. It is nice to have your family with you. " She said. Raj sent a teasing smile at me. " Why don't we take Mom Dad, your parents, Chacha Chachi, Ruhan, and Roohi as well, it will be all the more fun. " I said sarcastically. " Good idea!! You forgot her brothers, how can you do that?? " Raj said. They all burst out laughing and Mahi was also smiling though trying not to smile. " Enough!! Have your food we have to get in with the rest of the ceremonies or rituals." I said but they kept laughing. After we finished our food, it was time for the Vidai.
