Day five.

I looked at myself in the mirror.

I had bloodshot eyes with bags under from from the countless nightmares every night leading to insomnia.

My hair was in a mess.

I had no need to care for my looks when I was losing my will to live.

At least I could wash myself, brush my teeth and shave.

And luckily, I was on my last day.

"Oof." I sit down, facing the ocean as I turn on the radio once more.

"This is the General Horndale of the Royal Army of the United Kingdom. We are currently looking for people in hiding. Please head to the stipulated location of Evergreen Garden. We will evacuate you via helicopter. I repeat this is General Horndale of the..."

Daily announcements.

I change the channel.

"-Of America. If you spot a green or purple vehicle around your parts, please alert the vehicle. You will be evacuated by the United States' army."

Next channel.

"This is Carla Jones, BBC news reporting from the research labs at a refuge centre. The beasts that have rampaged throughout the world are still unidentified we have developed countermeasures against them. They fear the sound of explosives and bright lights and have bad hearing. So please keep these in mind should anyone still hiding encounter these monstrous beasts."

Next channel-

"This is Channel six ne-Sorry for hijacking the broadcasts but I am Alexis Niko. I am here to give you a message. A clue. Take it how you will but listen and listen close for this may be your only shot at survival."

I froze.

"This is not an apocalypse. I repeat: This is not an apocalypse."

"That pain that killed millions worldwide was a gene unlocking within you all. I cannot say for certain what that gene will be. But I can assure you, that gene will bring many the power to fight back. To survive and fend for themselves. I cannot say for sure how you unlock this gene but I can tell you that it is possible to kill these beasts. How? Go to Moogle right now. And see that link above the search bar. It will be made known then that-"

"That these beasts. These monstrous, hellish, invincible monsters. They are killable. Very much so."

I grab my phone and turn it on and go onto Moogle.

And there, staring back at me, was a link to a video.

I clicked on it.

"This is body of a beast that has been killing millions. It is now dead, dissected and being researched by me. I will give out more information for time to come but I hope-"

"I hope that this message has brought you all hope. These beasts are killable. And I have killed one." The video ended.

I felt my heart beating.

"She...She really did..." I replayed the video over and over.

It didn't matter if the video was doctored but what mattered was that this girl, this genius that had been on the minds of people, had come forth and gave a speech that these beasts could be killed.

That alone, that driving force.

That gave this world hope.

It gave me hope too.

I look at my GPS.

Only one hour to go.

Suddenly, all didn't seem bad.
