Jeremy walked out of his, now ex, boyfriends house, tears steaming down his face. Eric had called him, asking him to come over, just so he could break his heart. Well, it worked.

"I need emotion, Novocaine,
I need a numbing of my brain..." Jeremy murmured to himself as he made his way to the near by apple orchard. "I need somethin' to take away the remains of your name
I need amnesia for a day and an umbrella for the rain
That hasn't gone away since you said you didn't need me."

Upon reaching the orchard, Jeremy made his way deep into it, singing softly to himself. "Lately been thinkin' maybe
There's a place we won't feel so crazy
Been in a hazy mid-morning daydream..." Jeremy spotted a group of five people under a large Apple Tree. They beckoned him over.

"I found a shady spot that they saved me." The twink walked over to them, learning that they'd all been left by their lovers. They said, "come be the newest member of the broken hearts club
We hate every little thing about the people that we love
We're the let-down, we're the lied-to, where the lost go and it finds you
Where the lonely make the lonely feel less lonely, and we're dyin' to
Invite you to stay, and take away the pain

Jeremy was hesitant, thinking to himself; And at first I wasn't sure if there's even a cure
For what I'm feelin', 'cause what I'm feeling's been feelin' more and more absurd. But the thought of Eric brought him tears. He needed this. The repeating in my head of every last word that you said,
Feels like ever since you left, you still won't leave me.

"And lately, been thinkin' maybe
There might be a place we won't feel so crazy
For changing the way you made me" The others began to say, Jeremy joining them. "And in a daydream, I let them save me"

"I'm the newest member of the broken hearts club
We hate every little thing about the people that we love" That was true, Jeremy hated every single about Eric that he still managed to love. But Eric let him down. Eric didn't need him, it seemed.

The others agreed, telling him their names. Evan Hansen, Michael Mell, John Laurens, Alana Beck, and Maria Lewis. The group accepted Jeremy, all of them telling their stories. Evan was left by Connor Murphy, who went after Jared Kleinman, the boy who left Michael, John was left by Alexander Hamilton, Alana by Zoe Murphy (Connors sister), and Maria was left by Elizabeth Schuyler. Alexander and Elizabeth cheated on John and Maria with each other.

After the first few weeks, another troubled soul, Rich Gorganski, came along. They said the same to him as they did to Jeremy. "We're the let-down, we're the lied-to, where the lost go and it finds you

'Cause misery loves company, so hey, what do you say?" Rich accepted almost immediately, saying that he'd been left by a guy named Jake Dillinger.

The group of seven all made friends with each other, singing their own melody every time someone new came along. They were all accepting, glad that they weren't alone anymore.

"I guess if you can't beat 'em, join 'em
That's what they always say
Let's go inside, let's coincide
And I'll commensurate" The growing group sang in harmony.

Then, one day, Eric stumbled upon the 'Broken Hearts Club'. He tried talking to him, apologizing, but Jeremy wouldn't have it.

"Singin', we're the newest members of the broken hearts club
We still feel pretty lonely and we wish we didn't, but
We're the newest members of the broken hearts club
And we all kinda hate it, but it's easier than love" Was all Jeremy said to him, the group glaring, before joining their member. "Singin', we're the newest members of the broken hearts club

Eric never saw Jeremy again, wishing that he hadn't fucked up as his life went into a downward spiral. He got into drugs and alcohol, dropped out of high school , and eventually became so depressed that he decided to tie the rope.

Jeremy, however, only got better. He made new friends, got a new boyfriend, graduated high school and college, becoming the worlds most recommended therapist. He helped those who had been hurt just as he had been.

Jeremy couldn't have been happier for meeting the 'Broken Hearts Club' back when he was in high school.
