Each guild leader has a dragon in the cave that is super attached to them. The dragons would snuggle with them/put them under their wings.

The dragon slayers that had dragon parents can feel that their dragons are alive. They just don't know that they are in their souls, even though the guild leaders has stated"When taught magic by a dragon they go into their soul to prevent them from turning into dragons."
