Randis is hard on Dax because he wants to push him away and wants him to join the mafia because he feels they can better protect him. He does this out of love not hate or to gain something. This is also why he's kind or pushing June away too.
His wife is the only one that knows this, hence why she stays with him no matter how hard he tries to push away. At one point he stopped trying to push her away.
June lovers her brother, but hates how he treats his son.
Randis and June's parents were neglectives of them and are the reason why Randis is missing an are and June needs thoese eyes. Randis was the only one supporting the family.
