"Alright Ari, you are all healed but don't go flying out of a plane just yet, how's Captain Cooper doing?" I was trying to think of the right words but there were none, he was coming back for a long time because of his arm being amputated. " I honestly don't know, he said he's hanging in there but he just lost his arm, it going to take a lot to come back. Right now I have a temporary captain, he's okay I guess." I look at the ground barely making eye contact with my brother

"How are you doing?" I look up at him through my eyelashes and scoff. "I guess that's bad, is it because of those assholes at work?" I laugh at that statement because he knows it's not true. "C'mon it's like you don't know me, we both know I don't care what they say."

Words never hurt me but you can feel the tension when I'm with them, I don't talk to them about my life because it's too depressing to share. There are more things that I wish I could forget than ones I want to remember.

Going to work was a way for me to clear my head and save people. I may not be a people person but I do care about saving them, ever since I was a kid, I wanted to help people because I never got that help.

"Cruz, in my office, now!" Captain Blaze yells from his office, something about him just rubbed me the wrong way. At this point everything bothers me, there's no point in complaining though. "Yes, sir?" He sits me down in front of him and opens up a file with my full name on it.

"Let me guess another complaint, huh cap? Who was it this time? If it was Asher, he has had it out for me since day one." He chuckles and then his face goes serious afterward, he takes his glasses off and sighs. "No it wasn't Asher, first I would like to say, it has been an honor to work with you for the past week Cruz. You sure are one hell of a firefighter, and, captain cooper speaks highly of you. This isn't easy for me to say but the department has decided to move you to another station."

Well, I saw it coming, so there's no point in being surprised. "I know what this is about, my fight with Hazel right? She cheated on my brother with some asshole who looks like he moped the floor with his face. This is why I don't involve my family cap or my personal life." I roll my eyes in disbelief and finally remember this was not his decision.

"Listen, you're one of my best firefighters here. But that's not the only part of the job, you need to learn some sympathy, I've seen you do it with patients. It's not an impossible thing for you to do, it's just you holding back, we both know what it is."

Anyone can yell at me, and tell me how much they hate me, but they can never bring up what happened, I don't need no one's pity. Boohoo life sucks, if you need someone to be realistic about your sorry life, come to me. "I prefer not to talk about it, so where exactly am I heading?" He hands me the file he was looking at.

"You'll be going to station 118, when you get there, ask for captain Bobby Nash. He's a good man, I worked with him before in training, good luck Artemis, I just better not see your name on a damn gravestone." I look at him and give him a half smile, looks like I'll be paying Diaz a friendly visit.
